    ~~~~all parts have been ordered, the ram, case and core are different than the final posts in this topic.~~~~~
    i have apparently been out of pc building for too long. i know nothing.
    and have 3 requirements, money, power and video power.
    which do you think would be the best out of these. unless you know of a place similar with similar for similar or better price.
    i know how to assemble and often disassemble pc's.
    Well for a start the PSU in the 3rd one is inadequate, so I would discount that one.
    #1 requires seperate ram? aka purchasing extra parts. right now i have some artic silver, 2 hdd's and some misc parts like fans and heatsinks.
    another thing is wether they include the sinks or not. it'll defiantly be a fun project.
    this was the original i picked out but knowing this company it may never be in stock.
    barebones computers generally have CPU and a HSF installed. Whether or not the HSF is a decent one is a different matter entirely.
    regarding the first one, I'm not even sure it comes with a CPU from what I read. It seems to me its a case, PSU and motherboard only.
    Not much, honestly. maybe oblivion. you'd be best off getting a cheap 9 series card such as a 9600. (an 8 series should also handle most stuff)
    oblivion the game? newest i got is fallout 3 which needs a 256 or higher, but honestly i dont play anything heavier than sims 2. that runs nice on my geforce 5500 128mb.
    this pc will be about all the money i have. it doesnt come with a cpu fan, not sure about heatsink. was going to maybe just get a combo because my mess of parts might not fit. fans can normally be made to fit. fan just went on the 5500, strapped a larger one ontop of it :D
    Fallout 3 requires a geforce 6800 minimum.
    yeah. like i said, it's going to be sitting in a pile. it was free anyway...
    Edit: ok, here. low watt, higher cfm than the next one at same price. and it should fit.
    Rather than just picking one at random, I would suggest you look here: http://www.frostytech.com/top5heatsinks.cfm (scroll down for the AMD section). The core contact freezer is like the 3rd best overall, but is sadly no longer available (I have two of them).
    yes that one is nice, I'd still get an aftermarket CPU cooler though.
    it's only about 100$ over budget... and a monster. i dont need all that.
    and tigerdirect is systemax, same as compusa and circuitcity.
    they all seem to have same items... same prices... guess systemax kept the sites open because people know the links/names. but their all the same.
    Edit: ok, i've ditched the package idea. i went to newegg and been shopping around. here i a list of what i've come up with so far. 2 ram chips better than 1 but 1 2gig then another later will max it out at 4gig. it says 1066 but 800mhz should work? it has a nvidia 8100, the processor has a fan. the ram is pretty and inexpensive. the case im not sure about but has a power core included. and it all totals at $188.59
    i think this is a good base to start on. any ideas now? a nicer case would be cool, one that isnt 50/50 about quality. or i'll just use a plastic tote :p grounded.
    links below.
    motherboard
    RAM
    Processor
    the most demanding game i played, which ran on my 5500, 2 times. was battlefield 2, i have it but it barely played on this card. would like to be able to play it on new pc.
    Re: idiot needs to know which to buy. barebones pc.
    if you want to start out with 2GB, get 2x 1GB modules. ram runs a double speed in pairs.
    800Mhz will work in a 1066mhz system providing its the same generation (DDR,DDR2,DDR3).
    Don't ever use a PSU supplied with the case, always buy one separate. Included ones are shit and liable to fail, potentially taking the rest of the system with it.
    Re: idiot needs to know which to buy. barebones pc.
    damn. so i will go look for a psu now. yes im aware of pc's and their double system. by spring i'll probably have a 2nd 2gig, helps me avoid buying 4 chips in total having to resell the 2 1gigs.
    ok, still to find. cheap cases, good psu. is everything else good yet? is that motherboard good? err, please help me find a "not shit" inexpensive psu?
    Re: idiot needs to know which to buy. barebones pc.
    I'd recommend a different board, but its a bit more: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157159 be willing to change the northbridge heatsink for an aftermarket one, or at least put a fan on it.
    PSUs look at antec, silverstone, corsair, coolermaster, seasonic, OCZ, thermaltake and you want at least 400-450W (nothing 'odd' like 406W or 430W)
    please edit the . from the end of the link. it makes it go to a search. and that is way too high in price. i have to still get a psu now... is the board i have with the nvidia8100 a decent board though?
    Re: idiot needs to know which to buy. barebones pc.
    thing is it has no reviews, and my only experience of zotac was a bad one (bought one of their boards, turned out not to support a 140W processor even though newegg said it did, so I replaced it with the one I linked above) Spec wise its OK, quality wise I really don't know.
