So, I want to play the original Shin Megami Tensei. I know that Romulation has the game pre-patched in the 7z file, but I'd like to try to do it myself so that I know what to do in the future. I downloaded the 7z file and extracted "Shin Megami Tensei (J) (V1.0).smc" (since it says it won't work with 1.1). I've tried several methods. Using snes9x, I put the IPS file in the same directory. The game loads, but once it gets to loading the menu (the first translated thing) it freezes. The ROM works fine if the IPS file is not there. I've also tried using snes9x GX (Wii), but the game will not load at all. Lastly, I've tried using IPSWin to pre-patch the ROM. In that case, it will not load at all. What am I doing wrong? I downloaded the patch from here: http://agtp.romhack.net/project.php?id=smt I'll probably just use Romulation's pre-patched ROM, but I'd like to know what I'm doing wrong.
