An R4 is a type of thing called a flashcart which goes into your Slot 1 or Slot 2 and which uses some sort of memory to store games etc. R4 uses MicroSDs while some use SDs or even have built in memory which aren't as good.
You don't have to buy specifically an R4, there's many others, but R4 tends to be the best. Each flashcart is different, so you can't find a guide which applies to all of them.
Go to http://www.gbatemp.net/ then Reviews and have a look at some of the flashcart reviews they have there.
Then go to http://www.dealextreme.com/ or something for really cheap R4s and other stuff that you can buy.
Then if it needs some sort of memory like a MicroSD or something, go to http://www.amazon.com/ and buy something there. If you get a R4, get a 1Gb or 2gb or maybe a 4gb MicroSD but nothing higher as R4 isn't compatible with SDHC cards. Choose Kingston or Sandisk brands since they are the best.
Then google your flashcart name and go to their official site and download their latest firmware which are files that make your flashcart work.
Or go to http://www.linfoxdomain.com/nintendo/ds and look for your flashcart there.
Put all the files on your storage media (MicroSD etc.).
Then download a rom (NDS game) from this wonderful website and drag and drop it onto it and put the storage device into your flashcart etc. and then plug in your DS and you're ready to go! GBA games don't work with Slot 1 flashcarts.

Sorry for this big post but it sounds like you have no clue about flashcarts whatsoever and since I know ALOT of stuff about this, I wanted to make sure I answered all your questions and helped you out :)

ah, should have come here sooner, personally I wouldnt get a R4 carl as it is old And it shows by now, often new games require a firmware update which isnt always fast to arrive. A CycloDS or aDSER is probably a better choice.

i have probably been on this site about a year, because in my opinion it is probably the best as i get download speeds the same as my net connection, other sites its like 20kb, mainly for psx iso's, But i started to read the forums and surprised to find you could emulate games directly onto your DS so yeh basically wanna get started :D - Also i dont mind which cart i get, just i mentioned that R4 thing because its the one thats most mentioned, and i have already payed for now so ill see how i get along with it.

How do i connect it with the computer, anyone know ? does it have like a Usb connector, or do i have to buy one ?

when you paid for it did it say it was going to come with a micro sd.
its the micro sd that you put the games on after you've loaded the most recent firmware
the r4 comes with a usb adapter that takes the micro sd

You should have got a USB adapter with it...it says in the item description that you do....
You just slot the microSD into the adapter and plug it into your PC's USB port....

It's only possible to get caught if someone physically see you with the cart. :)

and then again no one cares not even the police you need to be seen by someone who works for one of the companays that prosocute people or something like that.

    so no worries

Surley though nintendo would stop the sale OF flash carts completley, they cant be that dumb, saying that though the japanese have small heads, so they must also have small brains

there in a loop hole as they are sold as back-up devices and media devices, also it would cost alot for them to go after all these companys and at the end of the day they still get money as you have to buy a ds

yeh but seriously, who the hell makes back ups of games. im sure nintendo could fine the companies for making carts if they knew what they could be used for.there cheap asses are nintendo, theyd want to bleed us dry for every penny, and theyd make what, 50% of money per game sold ? thats ALOT of money lost if you think about it, as we would never have to buy another game again, ahh the praise of technology :D
