    Are you sure it's charged?

If the battery isn't holding any charge, it's time for a new battery. I think you should still be able to play it by keeping it plugged up to the wall charger but you stuck to the length of the cord, but I am not sure if it will work with a faulty battery.

    Here's some other potential reasons/help:
-The DS could have been dropped by your son and have been broke, depending on the damage it may only need a screen replacement or it might be even worse, if you still have warranty send it back to Nintendo.
-The DS could have a fault which has been the shop's or manufacturer's fault, try sending it back to Nintendo if you have warranty.
-The DS could have been bricked if your son has tried to download the hentai image viewer which is a trojan for the DS, there is no help for that.
-The battery could need replacing, Nintendo or a part shop might have a replacement for that.

Oh sure, get the kid in trouble by suggesting he is looking at cartoon pornography :p

I'd check the battery issues out first, since that is likely the easiest.

O.k i,ve tried a different battery out of my daughters ds, still the same i don't think it is a battery issue, as i've got a green light on when it powers up but only for a couple of seconds then it shuts down. The top screen flickers on for a second then it shuts down???
The ds is 18 months old so its out of warranty.

    Is it an official battery?

I've had problems with the non-nintendo batteries, I just...kinda borrowed a mate's battery since he hardly uses it XD

Yes they the original battery,s the ds's have never been opened, i was thinking it could be a problem with the touch screen because the top one flash's on power up, but i don't want to replace it if it's not broken?

So both the old battery and the replacement are originals?

Only thing I could think of is drop damage.

Little brother has had these happen, this is a good list.

Anyway, if the top powers up but the bottom doesn't on power up, prehaps one of the cpu's are damaged...it would need repair in this case.

There are two tiny fuses on the motherboard F1 and F2. It is likely that it is the F2 fuse that has blown. These can be replaced but you need someone who knows what they are doing as the board can be damaged. These fuses are very tiny and soldering skills are needed.
