Hi guys! So, yesterday, I managed to get hold of a Famicom and a Disk system for a STEAL. They worked at the place I got them; however, when I got home, I tried a couple of TVs. Nothing. I tried switching out cables to a normal RF cable I already had, plus other adapters that matched the Famicom's. I tried a tip I found online (using channels in the 90s to equal Japanese channels one and two). I've tried everything. So, here are what I think the problems may be: - Something happened between here and my house to break the famicom (the RF stuff broke?) - I don't know how to use the disk system (do I need to have a game in it when it boots? There's a light on the front, and I'm not sure what it's for. Does that mean it's on? I'm using it on battery power at the moment because I have no adapter for it.) - I busted it using North American voltage, but apparently that doesn't matter (according to a forum, again). Is anyone here familiar with Famicom at all, and running them on North American TVs and such? I thought it was worth a shot. Thanks, MM

| Thanks! Reading it now. :3 Post Merge: [time]1278601158[/time] Well, shit. I used the NES adapter. I hope I didn't damage it. -hates self- Post Merge: [time]1278601415[/time] It smells a little odd when I check to see if I fried it, but that might be the soap. I used a little bit of Irish Spring (what was around) on a slightly wet washcloth to clean the body of the system (and don't worry, it was totally dry when it was plugged in; i cleaned it afterwards), and I smell that, and I can't tell if it's burning or not. o_o; Also, the adapter that came with it doesn't look like the official adapter. So... Also, would I have heard it do anything if it had blown? Would it have made a noise?
not quite sure. I don't own an fds myself, but usually tech only blows and makers a noise when there's physical damage (e.g. a battery makes a hissing sound when leaking acid.) If the inside of your console looks ok, it was probably a software blow.
I can check out the inside. It was the famicom, not the FDS. I think the FDS is probably fine. It's the system I'm worried about. The Disk System generally goes for closer to 100, so if I did wreck the Famicom, it shouldn't be an expensive fix. Post Merge: [time]1278603483[/time] Dad sniffed the Famicom. He doesn't think it smells like burning, or anything. I just hope I didn't blow a fuse. DID tell him the truth, though, and he told me not to experiment without him. He's right, you know. I'm a software geek, which is beyond him sometimes, and he's a hardware geek, which is TOTALLY beyond me.
Ah, me too. Pop is a soldering genius, but I still don't know if I'll ever ask him to install chips in any of my consoles :S Best of luck to yas, i'm really just another softwarez geek meself. I always go for softmods and such
Haha. My dad fixed a 360 I got off someone for 20 bucks. It was just an RROD, but he took it apart, put in some new grease, and had it back together and playing GTA4 in under an hour. Granted, it died again after a couple months, but I bought an arcade (and threw in the HD that came with the 20 dollar one) when they had that sale. I also had a best buy coupon, so I got a 360 for 80 bucks. It was pretty sweet. Yeah, I completely trust the dad with all my electronics. He made a DS lite out of two broken ones for a friend, once (We live in a nice town, where the people up in the North are nice to us not-so-rich-and-yuppie types and throw their broken systems that still semi-work into the electronic recycling bins we search through), he's saved my poor, helpless computers many a time... we're a good team. We'll get this Famicom running, if I didn't fry it. Thanks for the help! :3 if anyone else has anything, feel free to post Post Merge: [time]1278622007[/time] Okay, I don't think anyone can help me fix it. Want to know what's wrong with it? The PC board is cracked in two. I guess the sellers didn't know. I'm pretty sad about it. The FDS looks fine, according to the dad person, but the FC is kaputt.
