Probably any games. I tried too, no go. You'll just probably have to manually search for Y in the sortings.

I have tried this, I can confirm yu-gi-oh just does not show.

This is weird, because normally typing "yu-gi-oh" in the search bar was normally good enough.
I just searched "pokemon" and that came up fine.

Could this be a bug in the system?

Oh well, moved topic to this section then.

It is not a bug in the system, it is how MySQL work with full-text searching.

    - is a punctuation character, MySQL ignores these and consider them a space, so essentially you are searching for the words yu, gi and oh. All of which are below 4 characters.

Sadly there's nothing I can do about this without modifying the source code of MySQL and I'd honestly rather not do that.

The old system that was referred to worked a bit differently, basically a search was done on %search word% where % is a wildcard, this meant that we got a lot of results, but MySQL has to perform a full table scan for this search, that means that it has to go through each row in the table, which is more than 45,000 rows of data it has to examine. On our busiest day we do 150,000 searches, so that's just shy of 7 million rows examined each day just to search - not really a viable solution when an optimal query will scan no more than twice the amount of rows it needs to return. (in the case of search this is 50)

In future we might be able to fix this, but it's not something that's considered critical right now.

As a sort of emergency solution one can always use google. http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Aromulation.net+yu-gi-oh

A bit off topic but does MySQL allow any wildcards for searching?

Depends on how you do it, it does not allow it in full-text searching - which is what we're currently using.

...I find it hard to search for F-zero in the fourms, sure I found it, after searching thru all the f-titles...

Don't we just love search engines, many of the site I went to in the past couldn't find F-zero, and yes I got rid of the - in the title...

Sorry to go off topic, it's just an annoying fact of the net that I have to put up with...
