So, Normmatt made a few discouraging posts over on GBATemp.

Now, I don't want to spread rumors, but these words are straight from his posts.
He was the main reason why the Acekard 2i was such a good flashcart. Without it, the compatibility and timing of fixes is significantly reduced.

One can only hope he hasn't left it completely/permanently.

    Oh dear god no :(

    Say it isn't so!

I don't think so. If the modified version is shared to more places then probably.

But his title on gba temp is "former" akaio programmer.

    :(

I'm guessing the crack in question allows AKAIO to work on cloned Acekards.

Isn't it thus a bit ironic, perhaps even hypocritical, that he's (supposedly) quitting due to piracy of something that itself assists in piracy? I can understand what it must feel like to have the product of many hours of hard work effectively stolen, but this seems a little immature.

I believe that was part of the April Jokes last year (AKAIO being sold), and he didn't change it.

    Interesting...

    Good point.

    How old is this dude?

His GBATemp profile says he is 19.

And many of the crackers and programmers don't like piracy, even if their product is used for it. They prefer those that dump their own games, homebrew, etc. Just because his programming helps pirates doesn't mean he supports piracy. Just look at the PSP scene, the knowledgeable crackers aren't releasing exploits because they know it will be used for piracy rather than homebrew. They keep it to themselves.

Good point, like how they hacked the pspgo.

It does seem childish a tad (with the sheer fact that these cards would be used primarly for piracy)...but fustration does make one do these kinda things.

Oh well, programmers and crackers do it for the challange/fun/hobby, while people like me just leech off them in an un-intended way :(

when the crack for 1.5 was out
i did ask normmatt about his opinion
he did have the idea of stop updating AKAIO
i guess the crack for 1.5.1 might just kill AKAIO

Don't use age to justify him :)

I only used the age because (as I seen in some cases) some programmers are a bit young...and may act strangly.

Not big ones...just the odd kid who'd done something interesting.

Let's leave the age out of this discussion before a fight breaks out.

    hYpNoS,
    True is that :)
would be bad that ananjones have to moderate me :p~

anyway, hopfully he won't quit AKAIO for good
    otherwise, is a waste :p~

i agree with the topic starter that acekard2 is something because of AKAIO
without AKAIO acekard2 is just a useless cart...

    XD

Some of the mods are younger than me XD

    On topic...

There is still the official firmware from the acekard team, that said it has alot of work before it can fight how good the akaio firmware has been for us.

I'll concede that, but given what you said about AKAIO and compatibility, I assumed that AKAIO goes so far as to actively support piracy, or am I mistaken on this?

EDIT: Alternatively, if AKAIO was specifically developed for Acekards and not clones, then I suppose that suggests some kinda loyalty to the Acekard name. In that case, it would make sense if Norm just wants proper recognition (and thus profits) to go to the AK team rather than the ones responsible for cheap knockoffs. However, it's still somewhat retrograde to quit developing AKAIO.

Or, perhaps, he could simply be angry that others have been tampering with his pride and joy. The possibilities are endless.
