Then update your firmware by going to http://www.linfoxdomain.com/ds/

Does it say 1.18 on the R4 menu? If so, try backing up all your data and reformat your MicroSD.

    hey there,

I have a slight different problem with island of happiness.

basically the words for the buttons don't want to show up, e.g choosing boy or girl in the beginning both buttons are there but you cant read which is the boy and which is the girl (iv figured out the top button is the boy) also the save menu, three button to press but no words.
does anyone have an idea what's wrong?

alright, first, i just update my firmware. it seems to screw up my DS linker making the space smaller. I'm a DS linker writer and card user. By the way, i still can't save game. Firmware 2.55. What's flashcart?

Your DS linker card is a flashcart.

If you use No$GBA 2.5c (the emulator) :

    1) Go to "Options" and choose "Emulation Setup."
    2) Then, change the "NDS Cartridge Backup Media" to FLASH 512KBytes (and you might need to change the "Emulation Speed, LCD Refresh" to "Unlimited MHz Disaster 50%).

You will be able to save the game then.

There is just one other problem I can't figure out :-[...

When the character is asked a question, all I see are blank boxes which should read yes, no, or something else.

If someone is playing this game and is able to read the choices, what type of emulator (and its version and settings) are you using?

I am having the same issue. Also, when naming your character, selecting his/her birth-date, etc., the 'continue/done' button doesn't show up. You can click on it if you manage to find it, so it's still there-- it's just missing, like the text that's supposed to be in the blank boxes.

I am running no$gba version 2.6, with the settings:
Emulation Speed, LCD Refresh: Realtime, Auto
    Reset/Startup Entrypoint: Start Cartridge Directly
    Video Output: 24bit true
    3D Renderer: nocash
    GBA Mode: VGA (poppy bright)
    GBA Cartridge Backup Media: Auto
NDS Cartridge Backup Media: FLASH 512KBytes
    Solar Sensor Level: Bright Sunlight
    Sound Output Mode: Digital Stereo
Sound Desired Sample Rate: High (44kHz)(best)
    Multiboot Port: None/Disabled
    Multiboot Normal/BurstDelays: Medium/Medium (stable)
    Number of Emulated Gameboys: 1
Link Gamepaks: Gamepaks in all GBAs
    Link Cable Type: Automatic

... If any of that info helps figure out what's wrong, lol.
