Hardware not compatible for R4

I just got an R4 from the internet for my cousin. I got my R4 a while back from this little shop in Chinatown but I couldnt find the shop again so I had to my get cousin's it off the internet. When I got the R4, I found that it was black, unlike mine which was white. When I set up the R4 and put it into my DS, it said "The hardware is not compatible" When I took out the SD card and put it into my white R4, it worked perfectly but it didnt work with the black R4. Is the black R4 a fake? or am I missing something?

 

when i ordered my R4DS i got 2 shells that came with the package, a white and black one. Only one shell contains the chip to play games though the other one is empty, So i doubt its a fake, if it was used it may be broken... just another reason why i always buy new. Umm... if you bought a new sd card did you put all the files onto it first of all. and second i had this problem once .. but it was fixed when i just took it out of my ds and reinserted it. so yeah .

 

I IS a new R4 and yes I did put all of the files into the SD because when I put the SD into the Black R4 and put it in my DS, it doesn't work BUT when I put the SD in my white R4, it works fine.

 

That's what I'm afraid of.

You know what you've got? You've got a Chinese and an English cartridge, and each needs firmware that's set to suit it - firmware that identifies itself as English for the English card, and Chinese for the Chinese card.

Which one had the Chinese characters on the box? That'll be the Chinese one.

There's information available on patching the firmware to run on the other h/w version available at http://ehsia.com/nintendo-ds/howto/r4-chinese-english - and it works just fine, I run a patched 1.11 English on my Chinese card and I've successfully patched 1.11 Chinese to work on an an English card.

 

I loaded my R4 and it worked just great for a couple hours. I shut down and when I came back it I go the "Hardware not compatible" message. I found a couple of other sites that talked about it and suggested you wipe and start over or download the latest version from the r4ds website. I've tried both but it still doesn't work.

Since it worked at first I don't think this is a software conflict error.

Any other suggestions?

works flawlessly. i fear its one of the only trustworthy sites out there. its good for me, cause the guy who runs it is only an hour drive from me, so i got it the next day
