A few moments ago, a low sound that lasted for only a second that sounded like when you rub smooth plastic across a rough surface came from my computer. I know it's not the speakers, it came from inside it. Do you think the head rubbed against the hard disk? I will perform a chkdsk soon.

the head wont rub the hard disk, it will smash the platters and then your computer wont work anymore.

Okay, then what happened? It sounded like it came from the hard drive after inspecting it.

platter vibration maybe? noises from a hard disk are never a good sign. Back up and consider getting a new disk.

Okay. As soon as my iPod Touch is restored, I'll do check disc, and if there are any issues, backup time.

checkdisk wont show any problems with the disk, only filesystem issues. if the disk is going you wont get any more warnings than strange noises.
