I was given 7 3.5 hard drives of various GB sizes the guy claimed he couldn't get them to work in his computer, so I was wondering is there a program that I can use that will help me scan the drive to see if there are actual problems other than check disk (unless thats the way to go).I have an external "box" that I use to slip in these types of hard drives into so it runs as a USB device drive. Thanks for any info.
Try using TuneUp Utilities...it help me a lot..but be careful, sometimes it can harm your computer as well..hehe...
the drive manufacturers usually have software for checking their drives, whether or not it will work with the drives in a USB enclosure is another matter.
USB adapters for 3.5 drives can work wonders. Look into getting one. This way you can instantly inspect the data on them or format them or just be able to determine if they are dead or not without having to actually install them on a computer.
I salvaged 3 out of the 7, but here is a new question. Is there someway of using my USB external with a harddrive installed to be used on a laptop the HD that was in it is dead and I was just curious if it was possable my guess is no, but it never hurts to ask.
Thanks Loony I trust your input on that, plus it gave me an edge in a argument I was having here at home.
