Well, as a new month approaches, we have something to look forward to, giving out free candy, and kids enjoying them. It's the 31st over here, and I'm sad... all my friends went to Enchanted Kingdom without me and I WASN'T EVEN INVITED (Friggit....) I feel like a loser now....and my best friend won't speak to me (She's changed alot...) anyways, does anyone else celebrate halloween? And... Happy Birthday RomU
Well back about 3 decades ago we (Filipinos in the homeland) never really celebrated Halloween, so growing up as an 80's kid surrounded by American TV pissed me off because Halloween seemed fun. Now it has become part of the Filipino culture & I'm too old to join in the fun :'(
As a fellow child of the 80's, let me tell you, you are never too old to enjoy Halloween. I enjoy trick or treeting with my son. We get a lot of candy. Enjoy it, be young at heart.
But also being influenced by Anime, Halloween here's kinda odd, you got Otakus joining in on the fun ;D
This year didn't have nearly as good a haul as I was expecting sadly. Only 2 little kids got caught in the beartraps and they only had that shitty sugar-free candy that should be punishable with death for handing out. I'm hoping the halloween parties will bring me out of my depressed mood.
Ya and now you got kids bitching about people giving them non nut-free candy eventhough they dont have allergies!!
i hate halloween every be knocking on my door and begging for candy then they get cavities and DIE!!!
That's pretty harsh. I went trick or treating. You know if you hate it so much why don't you just give the candy to someone else. I go because alot of people around my neighborhood make awesome haunted houses and stuff. It's just fun getting scared once in a while.
Britain has had Halloween from about the mid 70's I think... Well this year we just turned off all the lights and locked the gates so we didn't have to give out sweets, I wish we had electric gates because it would have been funny when those kids tried to open the gate
Correct me if I'm wrong sir loony, but didn't Halloween used to be Samhein? Also in the Wiccan Calander it's at about this time where they celebrate their sort of New Years, because it's at this time of the year where they celebrate their spiritual cleansing rites. Just to add to the significance of the season, do you guys/gals also have something called All Souls Day? It's celebrated here every November 2, where we go to our respective ancestors' burial grounds (cemeteries) & we pay our respects for them. Then, starting next week, it's Christmas time here already! That's right, we celebrate Christmas here for almost two months, longer for some, starting when September begins the "ber" months, sometimes others even get festive at around August. The Celebration goes on up til the second week of January, that's why we (our country) holds the record for the longest celebration of Christmas ever, & we're the only country the Vatican recognizes for being obsessed with the Christmas spirit.
Yes, halloween is called Samhain in the Wiccan calendar. It is sort of like your 'All Souls Day', we light a candle for each of our deceased relatives. (usually only the ones that died in our lifetime, and sometimes other notable ones), and some of the more devoted Wiccans perform rituals to honour the deceased.
no, you aren't meant to be sad as such, its more just remembering them and quietly celebrating their lives.
You'd be surprised, here All Soul's Day is sometimes celebrated by others with song (people on Karaoke ), dance & light drinking. It's not meant to be sad, just a day to "be with them" in a way & remember when they used to be with us. But in general you can't help it if you feel teary when you visit them.
