I had a strange debate over Halloween night earlier today with my friend. That idiot thinks that the devil and his demons are summoned to corrupt us and our candy. I just think that Halloween should be about the children, costumes, and the non-poisoned candy. Tell me what you think what Halloween night is all about. I need this moment to prove that Halloween is not about the devil.
Much like Christmas and Easter, Halloween has enough secular meaning now to completely detach itself from any beliefs that may have led to the date's initial celebration. What ever Halloween may or may not have meant in the past is not important. It is currently a time to have fun, throw parties, eat candy, watch scary movies, etc.
Halloween is the pagan festival of the dead. Known as Samhain, it is the time of year when pagans honour those who no longer live.
There will be no demons corrupting MY candy! I may be a lost cause but they aren't messing with my candy. As for Halloween I can't really add anything as Loony stated it already.
Well, in this country it sucks for Halloween. why? First, its a foreign custom that is being put to our childrens mind because it is done in other countries. Like why should we doing that because it being done by other countries? Colonial mentality! The hell! Second, we come to the cemetery during Nov. 1 because its called Undas or the time to visit the dead and pay our respect? well, hello!!! NOV. 1 is ALL SAINTS DAY, so visit you saints! Nov. 2 is all souls day so visit your dead where the soul once lived in. My final point, Stupid socialites here practising halloween cause they have seen it in movies and from other countries. and for stupid catholics here in our country that dont know the difference between Nov. 1 and 2. Hope they get visited by the saints and souls and hit them in the head. Sorry if this debate became my rant. Pls have a mod delete this if it offends you. Thanks.
No need in deleting it you made a view thus it stands, but also its not like this thread will last very long anyway.
I think your friend is much to devout to her/his religion. Most Catholic based religions discourage Halloween because of the scary costumes related to the demons. Tch. In Mexico, it is Dia de Los Muertos (spelling may be innacurate) which is a celebration of their ancestors, painting flowers on skulls and stuff, and leaving corn tortillas on their graves. I learned this last week in art when we were painting the sugar skulls.
