Which one do think is more revolutionary? DEUS EX or Half Life or System Shock 2? And WHY? This is intended as a debate so state your reason. PS: Half life is overrated.
All right stop the why. Even if you do not agree with me whether or not this is a debate, please choose one and state your reason. Please.
I loled. Deus Ex for me. I've heard that System Shock is good, but I've never played it; so it was between DE and HL for me. I think that both are integral parts of gaming history that advanced the ways that games are made in a big way; but I prefer DE because of all the branches of gameplay, choices that alter events and the plot, a customisable player-character et cetera. It doesn't really compare well to the first HL game though. They may both be FPS, but within the genre they are in completely different categories. This is sort of the thread that was made asking people if they prefered Resident Evil or Metal Gear Solid...
@marks, at least HL and Deus Ex share some similarities like both being sci-fi and FPS. Of course there are still differences like the Cyberpunk setting of Deus Ex, RPG elements, non-linear gameplay of Deus Ex. Half-Life on the other hand is linear but with puzzle solving and has some Hollywood moments. In the end,i prefer Deus Ex because i feel like i am dictate how the game progresses, the way i approach this and that situation, etc. Half-Life without the multiplayer does not have a lot of replay value to it as opposed to Deus Ex. Regarding Metal Gear or RE, i think those two are like apple and oranges, too different not just in genre but gameplay too. I mean survivor horror and convoluted military sci-fi are surely worlds apart. Metal Gear Solid, MGS 4 in particular provides more room on how to play it than RE. Although even MGS 4 is nowhere near Deus Ex in that matter.
half life was widely regarded as the best game ever for years, and fittingly, it was deus ex that finally unseated it (deus ex was subsequently unseated by Far Cry I believe). I've replayed both this year. I disagree on the lack of replay value in half life. the story is well worth revisiting. Deus ex I played, then I installed the nameless mod and played an entirely different game, that still retained the elements that made deus ex good.
Well, not as highly re-playable as Deus Ex. You can't do creative things in that. Surely it has the upper hand when it's about pacing, gun-play and cinematic moment.
OK. I think if you play games for graphics then it can't be helped. If you can get past the 1999 visual you'll know why Bioshock is simply a dumbed-down System Shock 2.
