I'm currently doing the Pickup Truck challenge and for some stupid reason, my dumb driver will brake hard on the straight sections of Daytona. I've got a Ford SVT Lightning, 550 HP, put about 50k into the sucker and he can't for some reason stay ahead of his competition. It's like he doesn't want to go faster than 155 mph... I did this damn race practically stock in A-spec...
And what kind of ai driver is this? Hot, cold or between? I had to use a hot head to get past a few races, my cool drivers brake earlier. Im just about done with b spec, just needed to find the right balance of what drivers do best, now my cool drivers just act as place holders for endurance races, while the hot head takes the lead in the first 15 seconds of a race
1 being extremely cold, and 10 being extremely hot, it's about a 2 or 3. I thought hot-heads were bad... It would be nice if GT5 explained all of the mechanics... Also, I tell him to Overtake in the first 15 seconds, and all he does is sit in the same place and brakes. I mean, it's the frickin Daytona racetrack...When everyone is on the outside part of the straight section, all you have to do is go on the inside and gun it, but he seems to go in the dumbest spot and get himself boxed in between all of the cars.
Telling them to overtake doesnt completly over ride their drive path, i find doing it in close quaters on straights works, or just encourages them to over take...not actually there and then over take. The hot's are unstable but are best at getting to first fast, why I gave mine an formula gran turismo on a technical track (it's a city track), it'd spin out on the same 3 turns so first or not, I'd have to tell it to ease up before it'd spin it's self out because it'd take the turn too fast... Yes, constantly, I'd have to tell it to pace down even in first place and 10 seconds ahead of the rest of the pack because of how unstable it is, also a way over powered car does help, I think I spent more than 50,000 on my ford (yes, did the same event) just to get him to floor thje compitition... I have 2 hot heads, 2 balanced, and 2 cold guys (the hot and cold being all the way to the max), for endurance races where many can be used... Use the hots to take the lead, the balanced to keep it there, and let your cold guys endure, rinse and repeat, the hots tend to last the least amount of time because they go bezerk, the colds last longer but take their sweet time...though with the car I keep giving them (mazda 787b stealth edition ftw) they end up going a full circle about 20 times in a 9 hour race XD Also patience helps, especially with low ai as an over powered car for them is hard to control...also note to always use the max grade tires you can, in an event that allowed racing soft, I used midium, my ai couldnt hack it with those tires >_> Switched to soft=fixed the problem, tires and certain cars helps, why in the "like the wind" event on the oval track (indy or daytona I forget), they would break far too much in turns, even with the dodge viper acr maxed out (980hp) with the right tires...but the ford gt40 (the old version you win from a race) at 500hp actually out paced the rest...seems they needed a car they can control as well.
Well, I did finish that stupid truck race. I got it by sheer luck by spamming Overtake the entire race. For some reason he'd slow down to 130 mph for no goddamn reason, but at least he'd block the other 11 guys from passing. I spent way too much money on that damn truck... I just got enough credits to get my Lotus Elise 111R Racing Modified and fully souped and the AI seems to handle that pretty well.
The ai are picky on which cars to use...And dont feel bad, if you yourself plan to do the track, you can use that truck and dominate it If the ai can win it, surely you can.
I always do A-spec races first, then keep the car for B-spec. And sadly, I beat that damn race nearly stock...just the small mods that were less than 2500 credits were applied.
I always have the b-spec driver do it first, that way I dont need to put effort into the race when I do it Recruit more ai, have a mix of types, you can't go wrong with a few hot heads (be sure to quick level them, over powered car+high level track that they can't fail in+watch them incase they flounder=easy points)
The hardest part about A-spec is finding the right car... Right now, I'm looking for a 1980s Japanese car... I saw an '88 Supra when I first started...haven't seen it since.
Ah, that race...I think I used a skyline, forgot which one but only a few mods got me a winning b spec race. Took a few tries though (cbf'd modding it further despite my ai always coming 2nd, so i just kept doing it since I always got cash and exp)
I've got a Corvette ZR-1 '09 RM fully upgraded to the max and my stupid driver still insists on doing 150 mph around the bends on the Daytona Track. I did this race myself and passed up the competition in the first 10 seconds with Sports Hard tires. He should be able to do the same, but he barely won...Took him 6 laps just to get past the lead car. I've done this with both of my drivers, both hot and cold. There has to be something that makes him drive like a damn granny...
Experience and level helps, but certain cars in races change them. Take the old gt40 for example, I did 280km in turns, they do 200km. However unlike my decked out viper acr, they were able to keep the car in line and get going alot quicker. Tell me, what level are your ai racers, and not the B spec level but the actual ai level (and what level the event is in-since im playing boderlands heaps I totally forgotten the event elvels XD)
Level 11 race. It's under Professional. The Supercar Daytona Race, which is SHIT EASY with a fully decked ZR-1 RM. Both my racers are level 12.
I could also go on about the stat's about the racers but seeing as I dont even look at those...all I can say is the ai in gt5 has never been good, even if you get to "control" them.
At least the control scheme in GT4 was understandable. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Now they have this stupid personality and mood thing. My drivers are emotional little bitches...and they can't drive... I'm taking these turns at 215 mph, my driver takes them at 120 mph, and can't Overtake for shit. I see a clear shot to get in front of the competition, I hit Ovetake, and he/she (leaning more towards she) will just sit there and pace the car or ram it repeatedly.
The licenese system is optional, there are "levels" that stop you, the license test now just establish needed driving skills... And the ai drivers are for "B spec" mode, A spec is where you drive...many turn to b spec for the 24 hour hour races XD Im confident that giving my ai a mazda 787b is an instant win provided it doesnt rain/change weather
i see, damn, i kindda hate the license system. i never manage to clear all of it in GT1-3 (not without AR), but i was able to nail the race.
You mean you hate this one? For me I just need to do the special events to get to the events I want to drive.
By the way, I read on a forum for the Daytona Speedway, you need to spam Pace Up the entire race for them to do anything... I did that and it worked, even if they still take the turns at 170 mph. At least it's better than it was... My driver still sucks at Overtaking though...
