I found this site while looking for a copy of Grandia. The pop-ups almost scared me off at first, but after reading the rules and the admins' introductions it seems like this might be a decent place to hang a hat.
I'm 31 years old and have a wife and 2 kids. I enjoy fishing and feel fortunate to live in a fisherman's paradise. Headwound is short for "Massive Headwound Harry" a character from an old Saturday Night Live skit with Dana Carvey. I took the name when I started playing Counter Strike back in the 1.5 era. Back then I was always getting my head blown off (not much has changed :-[)
I like old games. Flashy graphics don't make a great game in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, they certainly don't hurt it. For me though, it's more important that the story or the game play be interesting.
You can tell something about a person by their tastes so here are some of my all time favorites:

    Rock 'n' Roll Racing (snes)
    Zombies Ate My Neighbors (snes)
Romance of the Three Kingdoms 1-10 (various platforms)
    Civilization 2 (pc)
    Twisted Metal 2 (psx)
    Counter Strike (pc)
    Herzog Zwei (genesis)
    Age of Mythology (pc)
    Age of Empires 1-3 (pc)
Star Control 2 (now known as Urquan Masters) (pc)
    Strategic Conquest (Mac)
    Grand Theft Auto 3 (pc2)
    River City Ransom (nes)
    Toe Jam and Earl (genesis)
    Doom 2 (pc)
    Disgaea (ps2)
    Diablo 1 & 2 (pc)
    Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion (pc)
    Rock Band (ps3)
    Guitar Hero (ps2)
NetHack (pc) <----------------I played this one to death when I was probably 8 or 9 when it was just called "Hack/Amulet of Yendor". It ran on DOS. My brother and I found a copy of the game on a big floppy disk at our library in the freeware section.

You may have noticed a lack in xbox games in the list. I've never owned an xbox or played much on my friends'. Every game I've liked on the xbox I've been able to find on the pc or ps so I've never felt the need/desire to get one.

Anyway, I don't have much experienced in emulation and so far I've had mixed results. We'll see if joining this forum helps things. :)

I remember Rock N' Roll racing, I love that game. I got hoked on it after I heard Paranoid was on the soundtrack, but the game play is really addicting as well. Zombies Ate My Neighbors is a good one too. Can't forget Diablo, both are also addicting. Welcome to RomUlation, and as its said, random and pointless stuff in here :)

Welcome to Romulation, enjoy your time here.

As Seph has said in the past, we don't like the ads and popups either, but it's the only way we can afford to run the site, which costs near $1,000 a month.

Yeah, I figured it was something like that. The site is pretty impressive and I'm sure bandwidth isn't just given away. Good job. I just started downloading my first rom. We'll see how it goes.

It's a funny game. It was started in the early 80's just using alpha numeric symbols. Up until recent there was still a very active development community. The depth of the game is what is really impressive. It is sort of the spiritual predecessor to Diablo. Random dungeons. More monsters and items than you can shake a stick at. It used to (I don't know if it still does) even save your old characters that died in past games and introduce them as ghosts with all of the phat loot that your old character had. The ghosts were invisible and really tough. In the dungeons you run into elf cities, dwarven mines, temples, zoo's, gold vaults, all sorts of shops, kitchen sinks (literally, I don't recommend kicking them, bad stuff happens), and more. The objective is to find the Amulet of Yendor somewhere in the bottom of this dungeon. This is one of the toughest tasks you'll ever face in a game since death is very easy to come by. I believe Penny Arcade even mentioned the difficulty in one of their comics. The random generation of each dungeon level gives immense replay value. Only problem is that if you are into graphics you'll hate the game. Like I said, the graphics are all made up of the symbols on your keyboard. There is a "graphic" version of the game, but I prefer the old way (I'm used to it). Still, if you have the patience to wade through the fairly steep learning curve you'll be rewarded. It's hard for me to stop playing it once I get started :)
