Good MP3 Touchscreen Player at an Affordable Price?

I can't afford an iTouch or a Zune, so do not suggest either, I do not want either.

The title explains it all really. I want a nice touchscreen MP3 player, preferably around 8gb or more. Little extras are nice, but I mainly want something nice, won't break if I accidentally drop it once, and has good music storage.

    The only thing I've found that sounded pretty good, but I'm really not sure;

    Pyrus Electronic 8gb

I really like the fact that it can hold extra memory through a MicroSD slot, and the reviews are mostly very positive. Anybody have any experience with a product from the above manufacture or somebody else reliable and inexpensive?

I heard the Creative Zen xfi-2 is quite decent.

Just checked that out, it is apparently kinda garbagey for the price. I've decided to expand my search to just good players in general. I found the Sandisk Fuze, 8gb with expandable memory for about the same price. Apparently has superb sound quality, can play videos, has radio, looks great, works great, etc. I might just go ahead and spend the extra $2 and get this.

creative are utter shite, don't touch them.

I'd have to reccomend the iriver h3xx series. User upgradeable hard disk and battery (defaults are 20, which can be upgraded to 80GB max or 40GB which can be upgraded to 120 or 250GB max, 16 hour battery life), can play videos (with rockbox firmware, original firmware some can some can't, depending on firmware version), excellent sound quality, radio, line in recording, microphone, can download pictures from a digital camera with a USB adaptor, can get an external battery pack that runs off 4 AA batteries, it is a very good device even though you have to get one second hand.

Could you point me towards a place where I could get one online with a nice kit to upgrade it? I'm not too worried about it being used if it works well and still looks good.

ebay. You dont get upgrade kits, but basically you want a lif-ide adaptor and a toshiba 1.8" lif hard disk (I have a MK8025GAL 80GB). Battery wise theres compatible batteries on ebay. Bear in mind theres a difference between the 20GB and the 40GB, the 40GB case is a few mm deeper, meaning you can use dual platter drives (or single platter and a higher capacity battery) beause theres 2-3mm more space available. The 20GB is limited to single platter drives. information is easy to find on google.

Cool, I'll have to research it a little. Sounds like a great player once you make a few personal changes.

After researching more, I find the Zen X-FI 2 terrible. Sorry that I even brought it up.

Wow, that looks like shit. If I were to get any touchscreen player, it would be something that looks like an iPod, smells like an iPod, and can use apps for an iPod... But is cheap, reliable, and cheap.

iPod Touches are over priced, over rated bs. If I can completely avoid Apple, I'm going to.

I like iPod touches, but they're way too expensive... :(

Yeah, I'd rather avoid apple too, which is why I want a non-apple mp3 that can play apps that run on an ipod touch.

I don't think that exists yet.

Does not exist, but the Zune HD is close, having it's own apps and stuff.

rockbox has virtually every app you could possibly want, and it runs on a variety of different players (including the iriver h3xx series)

There are only positive reviews, it has a good overall rating, and the Fuze overall looks pretty good. Can you give me any good reason why this is a bad player? I mean, you suggested a Creative player above, so I have to wonder about your taste in music players. :p

"Oh God, The Sansa" Doesn't always neccesarily mean a negative comment. Just saying, You found the Sansa.

Whenever I hear "Oh god", it is usually meant in a negative way. Sadly, Rockbox for the Fuze V2 (which I'm sure is what I'll be getting) is only beta, and doesn't seem like it will ever go further. It isn't an issue though, I just want a player with a good amount of memory (expandable 8gb is good), good sound quality (which apparently this has), and that works well (which apparently this does). Any opinion on the refurbished vs new?
