Okay, so my PS1 seems to be dying, and I don't have any other TV-consoles. I've decided to get a PS2. Before I buy a bundle, pack or whatever, I wanna know what I do and don't need.

    ok, here we go.

    1. I'm keeping my PS1 games, Controllers and memcards. 1 controller is analog, the other's not. Will I need to get another ps1/2 analog controller to do most two-player games? And do I have to get a ps2 memcard for PS2 gamesaves?
    2. Can I keep my PS1 cables and use them for the PS2? (cables can cost extra) or does the ps2 have a unique set?
    3. Ok, that takes care of system stuff. Now onto DE GAMES.
My PS1 collection is as follows:
    Crash 1 and 2 (1's a tad defective)
Star wars ep. 1 Jedi power battles
    The lost world
    Hercules
    PS1 demo disk
    fifa 2k
    Tony Hawk's Proskater 3
Spongebob (got this one for free, obviously)
Air Combat and Ace combat 3, both of which I've spent YEARS trying to control.
    Nuclear Strike
    DDR Konamix
Final Fantasy 7 (nearly MINT condition!)
FF8 (sorta broken, cutscene freezes (it's actually WORSE on a ps2, I tried)
    Parasite Eve
Any outstanding PS1 titles to look for when I visit goodwill/stores like it?

    4. Now for PS2 games.

Katamari Damacy is already on my list. I will get it.

What I need here is a list of GREAT 2+ player games for the PS2 (and any outstanding 1p games)
    RULES:
    No RPGs
No sports unless it's REALLY good
I WILL ONLY GET AN FPS FROM ONE FRANCHISE: Mechwarrior. Strangely enough, it's the only game series that my dad likes. And I'm not a huge FPS guy anyway.
So action, party, modern compilations (example: Crash Bandicoot Action pack) co-op and fighting games are good.

Oh and I gotta get at least ONE mortal kombat game. One of my friends WORSHIPS the series.

    Thanks for any help!

you can pick games up for £1 their ancient now, you can afford to buy anything that looks remotely good.
only the final fantasy games are still expensive. Well, £12.

    As for PS2 games.
    Great 2 player games:

    Alien hominid
    Metal slug anthology
    Timesplitters 2
    Soul calibur 2

    Outstanding 1 player games:
    GTA SA
    Hitman 2

I'd rather suggest Soul Calibur 3, cause it just has more stuff than 2. And the best multiplayer fps on PS2, is Timesplitters Future Perfect, hands down. It's so much fun, and has great story mode, which can also be played in co-op.

Hey, thanks for the reccomends, and THANKS for the compatibility FAQ. Might wanna keep my ps1 alive As Long As possible if I ever come across Tomba!
I guess I WILL need new cords.

Hmm, like I said, I'm not a huge FPS guy. Metal Slug and alien Hominid are obvious choices. Probly will get them.

You like platformers? If yes, try Jak and Daxter 1-3. They are from Naughty Dog, each one is worth attention.

Naughty Dog did somethin on the PS2? I thought they died after ps1 crash! Hellz Ya!

NEW QUESTION: Phat and slim - is there a diffrence? Which is better?

Of course Naughty Dog didn't die... They are in top shape right now, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Among Thieves on PS3 are great games, they will surely make more too. They just don't make Crash games anymore...
And I have a Slim PS2, it looks better and uses a bit less energy.

    Okayy....Next Q...
    What's the best/easiest PS2 mod?
I wanna play ps1/2 backups and run emulators.

I dunno which is best, but mind that ps2 does not like chips... my first one just died after few years, and my current one runs slower on some games, original or not. But it's worth it...
Of course, there is also soft mod.

I have a memor32 card (external modchip). And yes, you need a PS2 memory card for PS2 games. I believe you also need dualshock 2 controllers because they're different to the original dual shocks.

I suggest the spyro the dragon games if you like crash (the PS1 ones, PS2 ones are so-so). Driver 2 is good (its not racing, its sort of like a less violent GTA) and theres good tomb raider games for both. Also ico is good, and dark cloud if you can find it (its an rpg, but a very unique one, has a lot of dungeon crawling and sim city like elements)

Oh, when it comes To Driver, I really liked Driver: Parallel Lines.

Nuff said. And if you're planning on getting this game, consider getting a multi-tap too. Now you're ready for some awesome sleepless nights if you got friends staying over xD

Now if only I can find Timesplitters Future Perfect and a friend that has a multi-tap...............................

hm... I guess so, but I would, ME PERSONALLY, would have gottin 4 jobs and worked 20 hours a day if i had to,maybe its because im a gamer, but I like to have the games that i really want the day they launch. My gf is rich, but I'm far from it and I can afford to buy my games and nice clothes and stuff, so I'll just assume that your not a core gamer.

    Dangit! I gotta slim.

Anyways, I went out and bought a PS2 slim, memcard and the crash bandicoot and mortal kombat packs from wal-mart new. Maybe it'll help the industry, but there's no other new games I wanted there, so I'm ready to hack. What can I do with a SPCH-9001? More specs can be given if necessary.
