Can't you just port the patch from the (J) rom to the (U) rom? It's the same game after all, bar translation.
From what I've read, that trick(pun intended) will not work on this trick. I do believe it has been tried already. The blog I read said the localization team for the US version implemented different AP than the Japanese version. 'Course that could be just idle chatter.
http://forum.romulation.net/index.php?topic=43625.0;topicseen I believe some of what was known about the AP on the Japanese cart also affects the US cart. They say it's blank talking bubbles. You cannot read what people say...
This may be a little off-topic, but how does AP work anyway? The DS can detect when it's not a real cart? And if so, why doesn't the developer just have it so the AP bricks the DS or something?
AP is usually just inside the ram of a game. it is an adress that kicks in at certain times to check if the game is fake or not. since it can only affect the game, it cant brick a DS, that is one reason why developers dont do that
What do you suppose would happen if there was a bug in the AP that caused a legit cart to be detected as a flash cart?
The AP is designed to basically cut the game into chunks, if it runs at all. Think about it, if you play a game that is missing the text let's say, what would you do? You could try and fix it, or you could do what Nintendo wants you to do, give up, and go buy the game. In some cases AP does brick the DS, or a built in self destruct AP can ruin the cart itself. AP detects electrical interface, meaning it can tell if it's on a flashcard, or not in its original cart, being played on a DS. Built in slots, Ram encoding addresses, built in circuit chips, anything like that works. Nintendo used to be pirated all the time, they know what lengths they have to go to, to avoid being ripped off.
Darn, i confirm this, is actually a pretty funny AP, everything works, but no text can be seen on dialogue xD
