Hi guys, recently i have decided that i want/need a new keyboard. but i am on a fairly tight budget and i request your help. i would prefer if it is in the price range of around R400-R500(40-50$) but i don't mind if it is a little more. it MUST have backlit keys. i would prefer if it has a earphone+usb port and a few macro keys. At the moment i am looking at the razer lycosa as i can get it for around $60

I have both the G11 and the G15 V1 (G11 with LCD screen, the current G15 has an orange backlight and fewer macro keys), and they're really nice to type on.

Yes, they are quite nice to type on, i will give them that. Although whenever i play on his keyboard i find mysel f getting very annoyyed, in game i will try to crouch and it turns out i didnt press ctrl but but instead some ****ed up macro key and instead insulted somebodys mother o_O. So ya, i would rather get a different keyboard.

I simply cannot recommend the Lycosa enough. Best damn keyboard I've ever used. I haven't used the mirror edition, but the rubber keys on the regular Lycosa are great. The backlight can be a little dim when there's plenty of ambient light, but in the dark it lights up like a beauty. It has no dedicated macro buttons, but you can customise pretty much every button on the board.

The media touch controls above the numpad don't always work, though. I suspect it's heat sensitive, so when your finger is cold or the keyboard is hot it may not recognise your touches.

Thanks for that ^^ but i have searched around and i am once again looking at the arctosa, and for what subtle differences i can see, it is not worth all the extra money for the lycosa

As far as I know the Arctosa lacks backlit keys and earphone/USB ports, which you said you wanted.

Yes, i can cope without the usb ports, and well the backlit keys i can adjust the brightness on my screen. I have kind of decided that it is not worth the extra R300(40$) just for because i dont want to bend down and plug in my flash drive, and well i will just have to live without the backlit keys, i am already used to it, and i dont find myself looking down at the keyboard to check where the keys are, so arctosa looks like my best bet.

most USB ports on backlit keyboards cant run flashdrives anyway (because the keyboard itself draws so much power from the USB bus that theres not enough left of the 500mA to run the flash drive). My G15 will run the wireless dongle for my G7 mouse, but thats it. The G19, however, has an external power pack and thus the two USB ports on it are powered and will be able to run flash drives.

My Lycosa has two USB cables, one of which is used to power the USB port on the board itself, I assume.

that would make sense, especially if the two need to be plugged in to separate hubs (each stack of two ports is a hub, and each hub has to share 500mA between the two ports).

yeah, so i guess it is one or the other.

I haven't used the Arctosa but if you consider yourself a serious gamer, the Lycosa is a Godsend. Those rubber keys work wonders for slippage, responsiveness and smexiness of feel. I've also spilled milk on this keyboard at once or twice, and it still works beautifully (save for some stiffness in the affected areas).

If you can get the Lycosa, I say you should.

Yes, i agree, everything is better, but it is nearly double the price, and my mom already thinks that the Arctosa is way too expensive for a keyboard..... Unless you could help me to cinvince her.

Shouldn't be too hard to find it cheap somewhere. Otherwise, get more money.

You think I am not trying to get more money?
And with Christmas coming around the corner....
well my wallet is wincing at the thought

I know the feeling, I'm holding back on a G19 because I don't have £150 to spend on a keyboard.

But you said you already had the g11 and the g15.... Don't you have enough yet?

My G15 is showing its age, and the G11 is in America while I'm in England most of the year.
