I've been playing Zelda for several days then decided to add a few more games to the cart. Now Zelda starts but gives me the data could not be written error.

I formatted the cart and added the software and games back but it's still not working. I even added a fresh install of the system software and a fresh copy of Zelda, keeping the save data off but it's a no go, even adding Zelda last. I don't get it. It was working fine for days!

I thought about this but I removed those new games and still have 128mb free on the cart.

Get this, I messed with it a little more and finally got it to run. I deleted the save file that the cart makes when you start a game and re-ran the ROM. Then Zelda came up and said the save info is corrupt and will recreate it from older data. OK, I just deleted the save file from the flash cart. Where is it picking up the old save data that happens to be my current save data with all my progress?

I figured the save file was corrupt and decided that I would just start again (7 hours deep into the game, ugh). I'm not understanding where it found the save data if I deleted it.

I can't answer where it found your data but what might have happened is that it ran out of space while saving and thus you got a half-save which would be corrupt. There might be some build-in backup in the NDS to prevent stuff like that from happening so it saved it to there, it's just a guess though.

Good possibility. I did fill the cart petty full. I believe there was 24mb free but who knows what's needed to create the save data before writing it to the 512k file the G6 makes. It’s working now and I have all my game progress so I'm good with that. I wonder if G6 will make a new update to check for the minimum space needed for games to create save data. They seem to be on the ball with updates.

Well, after a day or so this is what I've discovered. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. If I start Zelda and I get the "data could not be written" error, I need to shut down the DS, start another game and save some data, then restart Zelda and it works. But if I play Zelda and save the game data (which it does just fine) then try to restart Zelda it fails again. Following the steps of opening another game and saving it then restarting Zelda seems to work every time. Any ideas?

I even went as far as removing the DS battery for a few hours to completely reset the DS, which it did, bit it didn't make a difference. I'm lost...

Well, I contacted G6 and they sent me a link to a new update for the G6 Real. It's ver 2.41 X but isn't available on their website yet. The ZIP is 2.4MB and took a while to d/l but it most definitely fixed the problem!!

G6 is on the ball with their updates!
