Hi, I am looking for a free, web-based cell phone system that allows me to recieve text msg. so I can use them to get money in a game I play. I am poor so I cant get a cell phone. A service that works well, is free, has no limit (or a moderate limit since theyh all spam your cell :p)

Yahoo! Messenger has an SMS feature, but if people you send SMS'es too reply back it'll cost them some.

Same goes for chikka (which I use).

I think the yahoo messenger feature uses an actual cellphone, that is the user puts their cell number onto their profile and Yahoo sends the IM messages as SMS to the cell and converts SMS replies into IM messages.

This is correct, people usually have their statuses set to "I'm mobile" however, they recieve IM's rather than texts. They need to be connected to the internet, or abloe to avail of a plan, so when they reply, it's free as well (unless they're on limited data)

what's the point of that? If I have an internet connection on my mobile phone I can use a proper IM client.

You don't need to be connected to the internet to get im notifications from a pc client. (ie AIM or Yahoo) You just need to set up the phone to the account and then whatever they send will be converted to a sms and sent to your phone. Even responding doesn't use an internet connection. Each user in your list has a number tied to your account. Text it, and it will be sent to a location that converts it to a computer im format to be read by the receiver. Just to clear it up a little.

But yes, I agree with Loonylion for using Google Voice for a free number.
