I've been meaning to do this for a while, I just never remember to when I have time. I currently have an extra copy of Half-life 2 (only the original, not the episodes) in my Steam account. If anyone would like to get a free (legal) copy of this great game through Steam, then I'll send it to the first person that PMs me about it. Obviously you'll need to include your Steam account name, and if you don't have Steam it's free to download and create an account.

That's pretty nice. Yeah, Steam is supposed to be pretty shit, haven't had any problems with it however.

It's been a couple of years since I had any problems, it really isn't that bad of a program anymore.

Getting a free copy of steam either through download or stealing is illegal

    #off-topic
Steam doesn't suck when i use it. stem usually works just the way it's meant to, and sometime better :)
I've had problems involving steam, but the support was just perfect.
So, no negative stuff about steam from me :D

Yes it comes default with Steam games, usually anyway.

Not really, it's a useful tool for connecting and using Steam games. There used to be connection issues, but I haven't seen those in forever. I don't know how you can consider Steam to be malicious software and AVG to not be, when AVG controls what you do, is intrusive in what it does ("oh hai don't mind me I'm just gonna go do a bunch of shit while you unknowingly try to play a game, good luck, fucker!" - AVGs TOS), lacks the ability to detect harmful files, and is relatively murderous to your computer's processes. Steam is useful. You can directly pay for and directly download and install games from Steam and it provides a way to control the games you own, as they're always available for you to download. So many people use it because it is useful.

AVG is actually very good. Games from Steam are really cheap, since they're download offered.

Steam has been known to interfere with other programs on the computer, and slow the computer down. also the whole concept of having to log into your steam account and have an active internet connection while you are playing an offline single player game is highly dubious from the privacy standpoint. I've never had a problem with AVG; it is not particularly resource heavy, and I wouldn't call it intrusive; it is designed to protect your computer. Additionally, it consistently achieves high scores in independent AV tests for detection, therefore it can detect viruses, and reliably does so.

If I'm not "using" Steam, I've never had an issue as it just kind of sits in the background. Actually, I think you can run single-player games offline, I recall playing Half-Life 1 during some downtime once, though I tried with some downtime recently and couldn't figure out how to play offline. So yeah, that's kind of a bitch. Anyways, I think I was sleep deprived when I wrote that post -- Steam is rather annoying as a program you must use. For distribution, however, it's still quite nifty.

There is an offline mode for Steam, it's what I used to play through Half-life 2 originally because I only had a 56k connection back then and had to drag a long phone cord from another part of the house to get on with my computer. Steam never interferes with anything for me, the most that might happen is it will start downloading an update for some program in it. Plus, it's not like you have to leave it running all of the time.

Sorry, but I haven't really had time to get on in a long time because of school. I'll go ahead and add you guys to Steam friends, but the free copy isn't available anymore. I had a PM from before these posts so to be fair I went with that, and the reason that it's showing up in your games, TakFR, is Valve is trying to get you to buy it since there a lot of people who use Steam for non-Valve games now.
