FPS with story mode

    as far as I am aware stories are reserved for single player offline FPS games.

    Well, doesn't Left 4 Dead/L4D2 have a kind-of-maybe story involving you and your friends playing the role of the survivors?

    i need an online fps that i can download that includes an offline story mode

    That's true.. It's just a case of..

    Hey lots of zombies... Four of you.. Get to the end... Survive... I'm not sure if it counts.. I mean they do say random pieces of conversation through the campaigns... But... I don't really recall there being any strategy.. It's far too linear.

    I agree with borderlands, also available for co-op play online / offline / system link etc.
    I play it a lot.. If you actually follow the story rather than just follow the green diamond, it's far more interesting. Lots of comedy involved too.

    I just finished Borderlands a week ago, great story if you pay attention to it... just tried the multiplayer the other day, just added to the awesomeness...
