Hi, i'm using ACER Aspire 4736G with Windows Vista Home Premium x32 and HDD 320GB SATA. The problem is i want to change it to Windows XP but i don't know how. My friend once said to me that ACER laptop nowadays cannot be formatted to XP, is it true? If no, please provide me with the best method for a noob like me to format his laptop. Thanks ;D
I doubt its true, it is nevertheless more difficult than it used to be. I would suggest if you don't know what you are doing then you don't do it.
you should be able to do that, you may need the drivers for your HDD or sata controller, im not too sure at the moment. but yeah you shouldn't risk it.
What Loony said, I'm getting 7 as soon as I get my hands on someone else's internet, even if only for a little while...
I used to use vista on my laptop, and it was pretty slow but I always just accepted that as I have a pretty average laptop, or as I liked to call it, craptop. Then I(well really my Dad) decided to reformat and I was seriously stunned at how fast it can actually be. I would never recommend Vista on a laptop, in the end it just isn't worth it. One thing about 7 is that it resembles Vista and brings back evil memories hahaa. I think I am gonna try to stay with xp for as long as possible
LOL,I hope youve created recovery discs to revert back to Vista later,if needed.Best to download windows xp pro corporate and make it into an .iso disc.Format your drive and load xp,but dont download WGA Tool LOL.Or it could be more beneficial for you to create a dual boot system with xp and vista.I use xp and w7rc,but I cant remember if youll be stopped by "windows has detected that you are trying to install an operating system older than the one your using blah blah".
download .iso file for xp (i dont know if its legal) then write it to a disc or use MagicISO to make your laptop think its a disc use a torrent site
I have a serial number for xp media center edition if thats any use for you.I used it for a year and am never using it again.I didnt register it with Microsoft, but they obviously had scanned my laptop when I was on their site getting updates. I dont know if you could transfer ownership via Microsoft,as since it was paid for,why should Microsoft be allowed block anyone else using it,since I wont be. Maybe a mod here could advise
you can transfer ownership, but that involves sending the disc and all documentation to the new owner. Microsoft does not need to be informed, if there are difficulties activating it then the new user just needs to call the provided number and explain that the license has been transfered to them
OK,thanks. The OS in question came with the laptop, only recovery partition-so no "disc".I thought that MS scan your PC when on their site and compare serial number with name of your pc and a few other things etc.I know you dont need to input a serial number for pro corporate,as long as you dont install the validation tool, but any other type of xp always needed a "proper" number when I tried to use it. If the OP can get a copy of media center edition,I can give him the serial number, and following your advice,he could get everything sorted out via MS.
