hiya. I'm pretty new to this lark and although I've pretty much sussed things, there are a few things i would like to understand. So if anyone has the knowledge I would REALLY appreciate the help . Firstly, is it absolutely necessary to format your SD card. From what I can gather, and i may be wrong, an un-formatted card can slow loading times and games??:- -Why does it make a difference?, What does it do? -does it matter if you use Fat 32 or just Fat, and what is their differences? -Do new cards need formatting? And secondly, I'm running low on memory in my C-Drive. As have a little kids in my family (and big kids lol), I don't particularly like deleting Roms. I know i can just download them again but any ideas on saving by some other means. I tried to copy a couple of Roms to a CD but it came up that I may damage or loose some files on the cross over so I didn't want to continue!:- - Is saving Roms on a CD possible? - Or how about saving on a memory stick? - And apart from buying more memory, any other ideas? Thanks for taking the time out to read, I wouldn't have got to where I am without reading peoples inputs- especially on Romulation!!- It's nice to see
Do you mean your running low on Hard Drive space or Memory?.You can burn data files to cd/dvd,put them on a memory stick/external hard drive.I would download CCCleaner and see what space it releases when it deletes all the crap....
-must be fat32 for it to work with flashcarts -I never formatted my sd cards, but if it's not fat32 then I duggest you do Now for second question. I use an external drive, some can be cheap...of course I find a 1TB drive best since I got movies and large games on mine, I find it better than cd's since it can be altered and I don't have to "baby" it so much. But you can find some good externals for $50AUD, it'll be cheaper in the long run than cd's... But if you still want to try onto cd's, while a re-writeable format might be better...a dvd-r could also be used I guess... I also suggest compressing the roms in 7zip/winrar (or as is if you have the original file from romUlation) and throwing them as is. Another suggestion is simple trial and error with a backup. Burn it, but keep the files on the pc, then try to remove/copy out the contents to a folder on the pc, extract what came from the cd...and there you go. The warning is just something displayed when burning is all. Also, if you got alot of downloads I suggest doing a virus scan, you might find a few trojans if you downloaded from many sites...not romUlation but other sites (had a few before I found this awsome place XD)
thanks guys- taken your advice. - LookintheMirror, i'v justgot c-cleaner, and hYpNoS, iv'e gon for spybot, so goana check out what those two brings. - With the Spybot- half of me doesnt want to look lol, but it has to be done!!!!!- Guess theres no time like the presesnt!! THANKYOU AGAIN
OK Becky.Hard drives arent expensive-especially internal ones. Randolph-no wonder you get Trojans, what do you expect using AVG. I was going to buy and send you a Pink ds accessory pack, there £14.99 from Argos LOL,but when I buy a 3 x pc Kaspersky pack,Ill give you one of the keys.....
just a warning to anyone who's thinking about using the new 9th edition of AVG. Before I downloaded it I read a few forums, and the feedback wasn't allways fantastic, with what seems a lot of people having trouble with it slowing their computer. Well I thought I 'd give it a go as my Dad has the new edition with no problems. I cant begin to tell you- when I first turned my computer back on - shishhhh- talk about slow, just trying to enter things on my desktop such as 'My Computer', with no exaggeration, took around two minutes!!!!. I had to turn off my computer when I tried entering Recycle Bin as waiting for it to generate its contents was excruciating. Luckily i had made a restore point, took it back to just before the installation and I was back to my normal workings. I dread to think what the Internet would have been like!! So as I say, this doesn't happen to all, but I know I'm not alone, the forums had plenty saying the same!!! To LookintheMirror, yeah I guess hard drives are relatively inexpensive but I've had my machine for a while so I'm toying with getting another one. And I wouldn't dare to presume you was aiming the pink DS set at me, but just in case you was it would be rude not to say anything, and hey, if you wasn't then it's nothing lost (apart from me looking a dik lol ). Whilst I'm at it, does anyone know why your supposed to format, just for my enquiring mind. Oh yeah, and I did try to put my Roms (in WinRar form), but for the amount you can fit on it I'm going to invest in a memory stick.
I didn't have any issues with AVG 9. My computer still boots up as quickly as before and runs without issues. AVG 9 did add a "fast scan" option which basically runs a detailed scan when you first install and run it, and it caches info on basic files so the next times it scans it can quickly check and skip files that have no issues. Are you sure that it wasn't doing this scan when you first installed it (I believe it does it by default on a new install unless you specifically tell it not to). AVG could have been doing a detailed file scan, using up your resources.
there is a free version that is pretty good if you want to get away from AVG it is called Avast it runs very quitely and does not seem to slow down my computer ,you will find it on filehippo.com..
TirithRR- Yeah I can see why you thought it may have been the initial scan, but that happend when I first installed my AVG,- it scanned everything for ages and I received my report, luckily all was clean. By then it was late and i turned my computer off, so didn't notice any slow down. The only thing I can think, if this has been the case, is when i've next turned my computer on it's maybe run a second scan without my knowledge, but you would have thought there would have been a notice or warning saying this was happening at the very least. As I said in my above post, I have read about people having the same trouble as me, but on the same hand I realise the importance of having a good security system put in place and a lot of people really rate the new 9. edition, with it running with no trouble at all. It might be worth me installing again just to see what happens, and barring that, look into such programs as the above mentioned Avast.
The pink accessory kit is a joke for my pal Hypnos. And I wouldnt use AVG-it has a very very slow scanner and its resident shield isnt very good.
