floppy disk(s) fail (80)??

    one of my buddy's recently pulled out his old computer and wanted me to reformat it (windows 98) i have a real boot floppy and a real windows 98 disk but every time i turn on the pc it shows the black screen with all that information and at the bottom it says: floppy disk(s) fail (80) does anyone know what it means and how i can fix it?

    it means its failed to detect a floppy drive. Check the connections and if that doesn't work, you have several options: go into the bios and make sure 'floppy seek on boot' is enabled (may not make any difference) and that drive A is correctly configured to 3.5 inch 1.44MB. Also check that the onboard FDC (floppy drive controller) is enabled. If none of those work try replacing the drive and/or the cable.
