    If that can explain anything...

    But, well...
The Border-ish coloured area is completely white. I know I might be able to solve this by turning the canvas a different color, but I won't risk it.

Does anyone know how to change the outside-canvas-thing colour?

I'm sorry but i fail to see an issue here... Am i missing something? If you want the border of the canvas changed then i dont think that can be done unless you add a shape to it. It's simple enough though, add shapes and keep them in the white space, which is the "visible elements" space, anything outside the canvas will not be shown on the animation :) Whereas everything in the white space will be shown.

    I tried that. I need a permanent solution. I've already re-installed it.

Well erm is gonna sound quite desperate but have you tried tutorials for flash CS3, they may have something in there :) I usually start with a shape or image background and develop from there, i think that's the only way to do it though im not 100% sure... check it out anyway

Maybe there's something wrong with your registry or maybe there's a conflict with your themes...
