I have a strange problem with my Firefox. It's the latest version using Aero Black skin. For some reason when I download a file and the download window pops up, it usually says "starting" and then the download begins and a short progress bar shows up with the % completed of the download and the speed. However, now for some reason everytime I download a file it just keeps saying "starting" and the progress bar does not fill up or anything but for some reason it is still downloading and eventually it completes but on the download window it still says "starting". I can add screenshots if it will help. Any ideas? Worked fine with the skin before and when I changed it back to the old skin it still does this. Haven't tried uninstalling because don't want to lose my bookmarks and passwords so that's my last resort. Not sure if I reinstall if I still get to keep those.
Try uninstalling the skin grim (nice rhyme). It might work, I also have the Aero Black theme, but I use a different one. I never had a problem when i used it... Put up screens please, if you can.
Do you have any download managers? And is this just for a certain website or all downloads? Connection type/speed can also effect establishing a good connection with the download server.
No download managers, and no, happens with absolutely everything I download from any site. The thing connects, but it just doesn't have the progress bar and it is annoying as I can't see how fast its going and how much left. It just bugs me when things aren't working like they should. Look at the screens. Thanks for the input dmac, always appreciate your help. Have a look: Ok, as you can see I'm starting a download (its star ocean on the SNES, been wanting to get it again anyway). It's normal, I choose where I want to save it. It's downloading as you can see by the percentage, but it still says "starting". And if you look at the bottom right corner, it says how much time left, yet the strange thing is it is still "starting" believe it or not. I'm 25% into the download yet no progress bar or anything. Ans here the download is finished, but the download box still says "1 file". And at the bottom right it says still a few seconds to go. In fact it still says that at the bottom right as I am typing this even though it has long finished and you can see the file, I have circled it for you. Sorry for the big pics. Its very annoying. Will try uninstalling the skin, hope that works. If you have any ideas please let me know. Thanks guys. EDIT: This also does not allow me to pause or resume downloads. I can only cancel them. EDIT 2: I tried uninstalling the skin/theme but the problem persists.
That's crazy. Check for any updates for Firefox. If none you can try downloading the installer and writing over it. (You will still have your bookmarks and all that, you can always back them up if you're worried though.) Hopefully that will revert whatever is causing it to do that. Good luck!
I must ask where do you get your black XP them bar from? And maybe try a different theme as it might not work with the current FireFox.
I had an almost similar problem when I had installed an aero black skin for my firefox. The best thing I would recommend is to re-install the firefox and reset all the current settings. That should fix your problem.
Here you go Mishy, got it from here: http://www.istartedsomething.com/20061029/royale-noir/ It looks really nice. Thanks to Born2killx for the link in another thread. I thought it might be that but the thing is it worked before and didn't have any problems for a while. Great. Thanks a lot mate. Guess I will have to just go ahead and do that. Will backup my bookmarks though, Rhith, thanks as well to you.
I already am on 3.0.3. Come to think of it, the problem may have started since I upgraded to it. Could it be that the skin does not work properly with 3.0.3?
Try installing the download bar add-on, I use it, it shows the download progress at the bottom of the screen and you can right click and open it from there.
Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately I tried the download bar but it doesn't even show up when I download something. Been looking for other solutions but looks like I will have to re-install
Is there a way to backup my bookmarks without having to write down the URL of the sites? I've tried looking for a folder or something in the Mozilla folders but can't find anything to do with bookmarks. Any ideas? Will take ages to have to copy and paste or write down all these addresses.
open the bookmarks menu and click 'organise'. In the Library, choose the 'backup' option in the 'backup and restore' menu
Thank you very much Loony. Will try re-installing the browser now. I hope it works. Appreciate it. EDIT: ok it seems to be working now. Hooray. Thanks for the help everyone. By the way Loony, my bookmarks stayed where they were. Did not have to back them up after all, in case you were interested in knowing.
Yeah, some browsers keep the bookmarks and home page saved on your computer even after you uninstall the browser.
Actually scratch that. I'm still having the same problem. It worked for one download but now I'm still struggling with it.
