final fantasy

    final fantasy has always been a great series but i think now the gameplay for me in Final Fantasy XII was to much like online play in a mmorpg i had a hard time the story was great so do you think the final fantasy it getting cooler or worse

    better imo the turn based system was getting pretty stale and slow imo

    i hated ffx because it was slow [loading screen + slow animations + another loading screen = boredom]

    Anything after VII is just downhill. I enjoyed 8 quite a bit, 9 was disappointing. And all the rest after that wernt much better either.

    FF6 still is the best no matter how visual the later FF's are, the story was great, the gameplay was awesome as well

    Yeah I believe that the games are slightly going downhill, but I still love playing each one of them although everything outside of the battle/job systems in X-2 greatly annoyed me (Brother I used to have so much respect for you...). But Almo is right that after 7 there has just sort of been a decline in the overall quality, but at least they are able to keep things fresh and still create good games. I just wish that they would bring back more of the challenge that the earlier games had to them just to get through the main story, I found starting with the PSX generation that all of the games were just too easy without doing the hardest sidequests.

    Yeah, the newer games aren't just as good as the older ones, as well as the music since cough*Nobuo cough* left. FFVII and FFVI are the best, FFVIII was okay.

    I work for a Final Fantasy site, so I have a pretty large base of knowledge regarding FF games in general, ranging from I-XII, don't know much more than anyone else about XIII. I don't consider XI as part of the numbered series, that one should of simply been titled Final Fantasy Online.

    I personally think VI was the best one, fantastic story, incredible cast of characters, great musical score, though I have a hard time choosing between VI on the Famicom (Japans name for the SNES) or the PS1 release with the FMV's.

    I also really enjoyed FF IV, that game was very close to VI in sheer greatness, though I feel Cecil often took a backseat to events, as a main character he should of been at the forefront more often IMO. The relationship between Cecil and Rosa is probably my favorite FF love story.

    Not overly fond of V as i thought it was more difficult than it really needed to be.

    VII, the most well known FF game of them all, arguably the best characters and best story of all the FF games according to a lot of FF fans, sadly the majority of those FF VII fans have not played I-VI so they haven't any real basis to make a judgment. I'm not knocking VII it is one of the best games I've ever played without a doubt but it isn't as amazing as so many people make it out to be.

    VIII and IX were IMO better than VII, I liked the characters in VIII and I think they get far too much negativity. A lot of people classify Squall as emo, he really isn't, the dude is just quiet and inverted then he literally gets the weight of saving the world thrown onto his shoulders,I would say if anything he's entitled to being a bit moody with that sort of burden to bear. I don't quite understand why IX gets the response it does, IX is great! Zidane is the total opposite of Cloud or Squall, he's all about saving his friends before anything else, a very refreshing take on an FF lead hero.

    I'm not much of a fan of X, X-2 and XII, those were, in my eyes, the worst 3 FF games of them all. X's leveling up system was overly complex and Tidus was extremely annoying as a "lead" character, the story was slow and didn't catch my interest long enough to keep it til the end. The only redeeming point for X was the love story between Yuna and Tidus, that was very compelling in itself. X-2.....what can I say? it was shite. I hated it, everything about it. XII, this game had so much potential, it could of been better than VII if they had taken a bit more time in its production, the world was by far the most beautifully rendered FF world of them all, that is the only thing about XII that I loved, the rest of it was on par with X-2, crapola, the leveling up system more or less made job class redundant as you could make every character identical in abilities, speaking of identical, was it just me or did anyone else think they all looked like they were related? That was another failing point for XII.

    SO.....as a whole I would say FF has been going down hill since IX not VII. Sadly I'm not holding out hope that XIII will redeem the last 4 FF failures.

    For me the best FF's was FFVII and FFIV because the have good stories and much more interesting stories even if they have lower graphics than the later ones

    FFVIII, FFX and FFX2 is really good....for me atleast.....i didnt play FFXII because 90% of my friend said it suck and the rest 10% didnt play it.....

    But how would you know it sucked If you didn't even played it and just based on others opinions does'nt mean it sucks for you to play it

    well 90% of my friend are FF fans...they play FF long before i do......FF1,FF2, FF3, Tactics, they play it all...so i tend to trust thier review more then any game site.....

    who do you think draged me into playing FFVIII in the 1st place?

    Well it still doesn't mean that their word is gospel, ffs you don't have to hate a game because they don't like it you never know you might actually enjoy FFXII. I didn't know what to think going into FFXII but i ended up loving it and found it more entertaining and chock full of things to do than most other Final Fantasy's.

    ^ though to be truthful I wont replay anything after FFVIII. Anything after 8 and 9 are only good for eye candy, if that. Ive replayed FFVII 9 times in total I think.

    The story in Ff12 sucked... When I beat the game I was like "Wtf? That was the last boss?" The story wasn't thrilling at all. You see the bad guy at the begining and you try to get to him to take revenge and you win. Nothing else really happens. There's too many sidequests and the rewards suck. The gameplay was original but bad in my opinion. I think that was the last final fantasy I'll buy after playing ff1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, 10-2, tactic, tactic advance, dirge of cerberus and 12.

    The worst final fantasy games from the less bad to the most are X-2, XII and Dirge of Cerberus.

    I never played XI and I'm not even curious about it.

    The best ones are definitely final fantasy 6, 7, 8 and 9. Final fantasy X is too linear and we can get too much overpowered easily.

    Thank you! Finally another person, besides myself, who thinks FF9 is better than FF7. I don't care much for 8 though. I liked 5 too, though it is kinda difficult.

    One thing I see why I didn't like FF7 & 8 is the setting, what is it pre Apocalyptic future perhaps?

    The FF games were better off set in the mythical age of Castles, magic & princesses, but I wasn't overly enthusiastic about the Animal-faced/bodied characters, that ruined the game for me.

    By the way, how come most of you say FF5 is hard? I didn't felt it to be that hard, really

    Cuz they never played games like Donkey Kong in the NES where there were no saves and continues XD
