XIII does open up quite a bit once you reach Chapter 11, if you aren't there yet.

Versus will be interesting, at least. I was a little disappointed when I heard it would be more third person shooter... I'm a fan of turn based stuff, ATB is ok, but I prefer true turn based over it.

You mean Barthandalus? The Desley dude, who was really a fal'Cie?

    Here's how I fought him:
I am pretty sure I used Lightning, Hope, and Fang. I had pretty much max Crystarium skills/abilities at the time.

    Lightning set to RAV
    Hope set to MED
    Fang set to COM

Focused on the four armors first. Used Sparkstrike or Aquastrike with Lightning depending on the elemental weakness of the target.
The armors go down pretty fast. After that, it's just wailing on him until he dies. Keep Hope as a MED and he should be able to heal everyone.

I didn't worry about trying to Stagger him, since he heals himself and resets his chain.

One thing I did do though, I fought the soldiers a lot to get CP. And in the process I got a lot of Credit Chips and Incentive Chips. I sold these for 500gil and 2500gil respectively. Then I would buy 36 Sturdy Bones and as many TurboJets as I could. Use the 36 Bones to get a x3 multiplier on your weapon, then the TurboJets all at once to level up your weapons. I raised all my main character's weapons to Star level. It made quite a difference.

I'm pretty sure I'll have plenty of time to finish FFXIII before Versus comes out. I'll likely get Versus as well.

i was trying to use Hope, Lightning, and Sazh. i will try your method because i have been avoiding most battles...i waste so many potions....

The ATB system was actually pretty nice with the the Paradigm Shift, it was a nice combination
I do hope they keep that system for Versus

And I know Agito is based on Crisis Core ATB but you get to be more people this time round.

Versus XIII will have controllable airship travel! This isn't new to the series, but it's going to be the first "adventure" final fantasy on the PS3, I'm quite sure flying the ship around the world is going to be pretty sweet.

Of course, Cid will likely be the Engineer/Pilot.

Isn't going to be Action Rpg more similar to KH?
I don't realy care as long as it is something new.
I'm really happy with the dark theme of game.
Lastly,no cheesy girl character please.I want something serious that fits with the theme and setting.
I had enough of cheesyness in FF XIII's Vanille.

Yeah, it's going to be more like KH and Crisis Core combat wise. I'm still waiting for a game similiar to Dirge of Cerberus on the PS3, it'll be INSANE.
