    Hey guys.

I run Final Fantasy VIII and it goes smooth, but after the opening I get to a point where I try to select an option but it doesn't work. I can't move the "pointy hand" icon anywhere, and I can't select anything, but everything else is in working order.

So I loaded a save game into the emulator and everything works. I tried to go back to the classroom to look at the computer. I get to there fine but when I try to select "turn the power on", nothing happens and the pointy hand has frozen up again. I can select menus though from the options but i cannot select anything in game (bar some like the option to go to parking lot, dormitory, etc.).

This is my first post and I'm too lazy to search so any help is appreciated.

Did you load the ISO first?

How are you playing the game?

Played it on ePSXe 1.6.0 by ISO. Then I played it by mounting the ISO. Then I got my discs to try and play it. But they were too scratched.

DW I own the games but they are too scratched to work. I couldn't even convert them to ISO. So I downloaded the ISO from here. I am just wondering if it is in fact the ISO or if it is a grafx problem.

It isn't the first one to freeze. Metal Gear Solid freezes when I skip dialogue (ISO), Fighter Maker freezes when I try to select a menu (disc). Armored Core freezes after a battle (disc). So I don't believe it is an ISO issue.

Could it be a plugin problem? If so, what are your settings for Final Fantasy 8?

BTW Thank you all for the feedback I thought it would just be passed over and I would have to search.

It wouldn't be the ISO that is the problem. Try using 1.5.2, or 1.7.

    Jeez I really am stupid.

I didn't even know 1.7.0 existed. Anyways I downloaded it and it seems to be in working order now.

    Thanks again guys.

Did a new user actually post a grammatically flawless first post?

If you use ePSXe 1.5.2 for any reason, I'll post a screenshot of my settings.
Actually, I'm not sure if they're flawless because I played FF8 on the PC version, not the PSX one. I only got settings that look remotely close to what it's supposed to look like (at least I got rid of the random black squares in the background and foreground).

Yeah of course the PC version is a lot easier to play.

When it works, its compatibility with windows XP and new grapics hardware is fairly poor.

I haven't had any problems so far especially when installing the FF8Sqea patch or whatever it's called.
