    Hi all,

This is my first post on this forum. I've tried to search for the answer, but couldn't find it, so please forgive me if my question has been answered before.

Next week is my sons birthday. I bought him an R4 SDHC card with 4 GB for his Nintendo DS. I've installed the firmware, downloaded some games and put them on the card (FAT32). It all works well! :)

My question now is: why do the files on the card take so much more space compared to the space they take on my harddrive? On my disc I can see their real size, like 26713 KB, but on the card it seems that they always take 16384, 32768, 65536 or 131072 KB. Is this due to the blocksize? Should I reformat my R4 card differently? Is there another way around this problem? I can now put much less games on the card than I planned before....

Thanks in advance for your time and effort!

    Kind regards,

    Kees

You've answered your own question there...yes it is due to the block size ...when the game is put on a cartridge the cartridge is a set size so the game will have dummy files to fill the void....Have look round and find a 'Rom Trimmer' program ...this should solve yer problem.

Great, thanks! I'll try to find and use this program to improve the capacity.

The link provided by this forum to 'xTrim' isn't valid anymore. Does anyone know a ROM trimmer for the R4 SDHC card? I suppose I can't use just any R4DS trimmer?

Any rom trimmer should work, bear in mind that results will vary between games and in some cases trimming may break parts of the game (download play is usually the victim).

    Thank you for your reply.

    I found this one: http://techsuki.net/nintendo-ds-rom-trimmer

It seems very up-to-date and takes the following into account:

    - Batch processing
    - Recursive folder scanning
    - Auto detection for Wifi games
    - Auto detection of already trimmed games
    - Auto fix of incorrect trimming from other trimmers
    - Extremely fast
    - Trims NDS and GBA roms
    - RAR/ZIP/7zip support
    - It works for all the currently known cards for DS (R4, Acekard, M3, CycloDS, G6 etc..)

If that one gives you any problems, give this one a try:

    http://r4ds.cn/download/r4_rom_trim_tool.html

I've yet to encounter any ROM corruption or WiFi compatibility issues when using it (I must have trimmed two or three hundred games using it, thus far), and the interface is really simple.
