Hey, Romulation nation 'n people: I got PlayStation file problems. I think there's something wrong with my WinRAR (the ones used for processing archive formats). Story. Skip to [TL;DR] if you don't wanna read it. When I first downloaded the game files and burned them into the disk, it had no problems. 4 perfect disk burnings later, when I extracted the files of another game, I noticed there's no folder (only the "...") and just the .ccd file, .sub file, and the .img file. You guys know how it looks like when you download the PS games and get a "..." folder and a "*PS game*" folder, right? Well mines didn't have the folder. Just the files (.ccd, .sub, .img) and the "..." folder. When I was almost finished burning the file onto the disk, it got the message "error in sectors: 1". I aborted the disk burning and wasted a CD. So I downloaded another game and got the same thing, only with the message "error in sectors:24". Another CD wasted. I asked some people around here and one told me to put them in a folder. I placed all the files for the game in 1 folder and tried burning again, but only got the EXACT same error message again. Wasted ANOTHER CD. I tried download the same game on a different site (rom hustler) and got the same exact thing: doesn't come in with the folder with files. [TL;DR] I founded out games with 2 folders (the "..." and "*PS game*") doesn't have problems and those with a folder (the "...") and the files (.img, .ccd, and .sub) has disk burning problems. Is there something wrong with my WinRAR? Was I doing it wrong? Is there a way to put the files together or something that fixes it? Here are the facts: -I'm using WinRAR 3.80 -I'm using Imgburn for burning games -I didn't test out the broken CD on my modded PS (it can play burned games. Thank you, China's black videogame market for modding my PS and making cheap PS game copies.) -I'm using Memorex CD-R disks -I'm using this site and Rom Hustler for downloading my games -My computer (Windows XP) has issues (lag, broken graphics card, broken DVD drive, constantly crashes, constantly not responds, and I have to emergency shut down and restart my comp after clicking on Mozilla Firefox icon (or any other icons or the start menu) because my computer froze and I want to go online.) -My computer didn't freeze, not respond, or crash when burning the CDs. -I was on different sites (YouTube, DeviantART, etc.) when the game was downloading. -I was playing on my DS or PS2 slim when downloading the first 4 games. I left the comp on standby when downloading. -The games that worked perfectly were: "Klonoa: Door to Phantomile", "Parasite Eve 2 (disk 1), "Parasite Eve 2 (disk 2)" ,and "Final Fantasy 8 (disk 4)". -The games that failed from extraction were: "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" and "Megaman Legends 2" Extra question: Even if I perfectly downloaded and burned my "Megaman Legends 2", I heard that I have to "copy the file and change the extension to .bin" to avoid getting the "Capcom logo and blackout." How do I do that? ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED!!!
I think your problem lies with your PC. If your DVD writer is broken, then it can't copy the disc's properly. I also get errors at times with my old writer because it was broken and some memorex dvd's did not want to copy properly. You are using CD's though but I assume it is your pc causing the problems. If it lags and does not run properly, there is a high probability that it affects your copy. Try not to use it whilst copying. If it was a problem with the actual .rar archive, it would give you an error when extracting. Then you will know that the problem lies with the software. But from my experience it is your hardware.
But I'm using th CD drive for burning. My DVD drive was already broken when I was copying the game. my first 4 ended up perfect.
Ok, here is my thoughts... When you burn games, select the .IMG file for burning, and keep all those other files near, if you have those files, it SHOULD burn correctly-prehaps you just copied those files onto a cd by mistake??? Winrar shouldn't have that kinda problem, if there was a problem it would tell you the file is corrupted or something... Also-why don't you use the files here-the only trouble I had is before I starting using a download manager XD As for your pc troubles-get it fixed-do a defrag-GET THAT DVD DRIVE FIXED! (Though unless it makes the cd burn program play up, prehaps that is why...) That is all i have-my therory is you just made a mistake when you burned the games-extract the games fully from the zipped folder, keep them together, and try again... Sounds stupid, but until you make the same mistake 10 times, then you have a problem.... Oh-and try those failed disc-you just never know
I use the .img file for burning. And I kept the files near by putting them in a folder. And how do I copy files by mistake? And WinRAR does tell if a file is corrupted. My Parasite Eve 2 had a corrupted rom and I fixed it thanks to WinRAR. But when I extracted the files they weren't in a folder. The file are big and I have to WAIT to download the game. And I'm impatient. It takes me 45 min- 1 1/2 hours to download. I forgot how to defrag.... I didn't extract the games fully. I extract once and I see 2 folders. But the ones that had errors was extracted fully in one extraction. What's the difference between a "zipped" folder and a "normal" folder?
to defrag, open control panel, and go to administrative tools, in there select computer management, and when the window opens you'll see disk defragmenter in the treeview on the left. A zipped folder is still compressed, this time using .zip rather than .rar. Windows has the capability to read .zip files, hence it shows them as folders. If you right click one, it will give you an option to extract it. I think mds was referring to the rar files though. How old is your CD burner? the early burners required a constant stream of data from the hard disk to be able to write successfully, if that stream was too slow or got interrupted you ended up with a coaster. Modern burners are able to pause the burn and wait for more data without wrecking the disc. what speed are you burning at? PSX games need to be burned at 4x or lower.
zipped is compressed, remember winzip? Same deal with rar and 7zipped folders. Impatient...the files here always work, what kinda of download speed you got? (if you got fast net it's capped at 150kbs which isn't so bad...lucky to get 50 here but still good) Well, I just use (on vista) right click on c drive, tools tab, defragment. And to download a game, there shouldn't be a real wait-just click on a server and go... Also, patients is a virtue-so if it will work then that is a better option... And finnally-it's possible the file got corrupted during download-redownload it again-also since you didn't mention it, try a download manager-what browser are you using so I may suggest?
I'm burning at 1x speed. Post Merge: [time]1247319341[/time] I meant waiting as in the point system. And I don't know what a download manager is.
