Well I want to buy an RPG...but I only have the money for one game...Since Im a Final Fantasy nut..the obvious choice is FFXII...but I've heard good things about Oblivion..and I've been playing the Xbox so much the PS2 is getting dusty...So I need help..Should I try the "wonderful" Oblivion..or dust off the PS2 and stay faithful...? Any opinions greatly appreciated...I really need help on this one..
Oblivion is a nice RPG, it's far from perfect though. There's great graphics, a decent storyline (although it's nothing special), very much free will, you can play the game in a lot of different ways, but in the end it's all the same just in a different order. The living universe which it was supposed to have been wasn't that great, the AI isn't really as intelligent as it was said to have been. Overall it's a great RPG, it's nothing revolutionary though. My personal favorite is still Gothic 2. (don't bother with the 3rd one, MAJOR dissapointment)
I wouldn't bother with oblivion on a console; get it for the PC if it can handle it; the graphics are amazing on a high-end PC, way better than a console. Personally, I would also find the controls rather awkward on a console.
Not to mention you can get plugins for the PC which allows for extra realism and more monsters. In the console version you can walk around for 20 minutes without finding a single monster, on the PC there's a mod which will generate far more monster like crabs near the water, lone wolves hunting in the forrest, packs of wolves hunting in open areas etc. Also there's a mod which generates more scrubs and grass to make it more living, so PC > Console indeed.
Oblivion on PC is out of the question..my pc probably wouldn't be able to handle it...and I dont use the pc that often. Has anyone played FFXII?
It's just my opinion on it, take it as you will. Final Fantasy XII was a very interesting game to say the least, nice graphics, awesome FMVs or whatever the hell they're called, and a rather entertaining story that could keep you hooked. The only places it fell short for me was the items being random and the battle system, it wasn't really challenging at all once you found a decent set-up for the Gambits and you could just leave the game to fight all on its own while you do something else. The items now, this is probably what pissed me off more than anything, the chests and whatnot are random in this game, so let's say there's a treasure chest that's supposed to have a really good item in it, you click on it just to find that luck screwed you over and you get a knot of rust or something else instead, what's even worse is the fact that you'll need some type of guide just to know how to open certain chests and whatnot so you have the best chance of getting the damn items, no guarantees on it. You can't even get one of the best weapons in the game unless you skip out on a bunch of treasure chests, usually with lots of money that you WILL need throughout this whole game, and even then you have no real guarantee that you'll get it anyways. Other than those two flaws, it's a nice game, if a tad boring with all the walking and whatnot sometimes.
I bought FFXII..and I'm slightly dissappointed at the moment...the battle system is...weird..now you dont even get the satisfaction of pressing attack and seeing your character attack immediatley..I like the bounty hunting sidequests though...Its a good game so far..but could have been alot better..still worth the 55 quid I spent though with all the play I'll get..anyway..thank you guys for your opinions
FF SERIES ARE GREAT, BUT I HAVE NOT SEEN ANY RPG THAT COMPARES WITH OBLIVION OR FOR ANY OTHER FACTS TO THE KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC (STAR WARS). Highest score of any RPG ever. Take A look @ Gamerankings.com and you can not go run since these are sites that has rated all games and its average from all top ranking sites. Oblivion is very long and interesting open story line, while knights will keep you intrigue with its variety of multiple cut scenes, great adventure/story/action and challenging with its multiple game challenge.
please don't shout, and try to remember that rankings in general are often meaningless as they are based on the reviewer's opinion of the game.
buy oblivion because it's the new trend and you'll be more then busy with the game and an expansion pack for it. don't buy ff x11 because that's just dying out slowly because of their new slowly developed gameing system.
Oblivion was boring, the story line was ultra predictive and you grow tired of teleporting around to various quests all the time. Nay, a good free first person shooter is good inbetween programming sessions.
So spend 20 minutes travelling between each quest? That's just wack, you get bored of that after a day of looking at the same underwood...
It's the same no matter what you do, swimming is even more tedious. But I suppose it's just not my type of game, I used to speedhack in the old Elder Scrolls: Morrowind too, was just too damn slow.
I haven't played Oblivion in a Long time. But IMO I would choose that instead of FF.. The 2 Expansions for it provide very nice quests. Also the ability to increase Any skill and you have soooo many choices in the game is nice.. If they disabled teleporting IMO in that game.... it would receive an F rating lol... It is fun in the begining, but then you kinda need the teleporting (which isn't really teleporting cause you are losing time in the game by 'traveling' lol) cause it becomes tedious. Anyway just because its rating an A in GameSpot or something, doesn't mean everyone in the world has to like it.... just the Majority does ;d
