well i been hearing alot about feng shui is science..... even my mom told me feng shui is science.......

as for start, seeing how i am a guy that "show me god, if you want me to belive", i have to say no.... Feng Shui is not science. why because i cant find any artical or mathamatical formula that saying placing certain object in certain way can improve the "chi" flow in my house and improve my lifestyle.

Feng Shui is much science as Intelligent Design.

so what do you guys think about Feng Shui? science or not?

My opinion without input-it's a money making scam smart asians (like us XD) used on dumb westeners.

I seen some of the stuff...

And the prices, but I have no real input-that is an opinion from seeing what I seen-dumb rich people paying big cash for it.

...anyone got any real input so I can watch?

Well, I only know a glimpse of them but for me it's half yes, half no. Some of them can be explained by science while some others not. I heard that feng shui forbids having bathroom in your bedroom, it somehow makes sense that having bad air from the toilet in your bedroom isn't very healthy, something like that.

Oh, I don't believe in feng shui, the ones that doesn't make sense.

Feng shui is not science. its more on traditional beliefs. and its a bit logical and common sense.

like why put a door in front of stairs? thats a bit of common sense. and why is it bad to put the bed in front of the door, or the mirror aligned with the bed?

and placing plants inside the house which brings goodluck? plants are good for us cause it gives oxygen and a bit of green is good for your eyes.

i even went to hongkong which it says, if you cross the bridge 3 times, it will prolong your life for a extra day. well, it doesn't mean you need to cross the bridge then magically extra day, it means it will give you good exercise and help your body strong and may extend your life, rather than not doing exercises.

What about if next to it seperated from door?

Also-if you have to pay for it...that's poor common sence-go listen to your parents and grand parent's and you'll learn the same things.

I think it is something deeper than that, put the obvious of having a toilet close to your bedroom brings bad atmosphere aside, I know how chinese assosciates something negative can lead to other negative things (mainly bad luck). Also in feng shui, it is believe that when decorating a room, items should not be placed haphazardly because items of a certain nature has to be placed in harmony with something its own nature <<<< not exactly accurate but you get the point.

An amazing episode where Penn And Teller's Bullshit calls Bullshit on Feng Shui and bottled water.

To specify as to why it's not a science is because all science experiments can be replicated. Feng Shui, cannot, it's only a set of beliefs. On the episode Penn and Teller talk about how if you believe it's real, then it is real to that person. As shown with the bottled water.

As someone else said, watch the Penn & Teller episode about it if you have any doubts about it being complete bullshit.

I lol'd hard the other day when I was at work (I just started a new office job) and I was looking through the files and found a "Feng Shui guide for 2009" file. So I opened it up out of curiosity and saw all of this crap about how we could create a better work environment by putting these little wooden pyramids in different random places. It also explained why there was a bowl with rocks & water in it on my desk - prior to that I just assumed the fish had died and hadn't been replaced yet - silly me!

Yup, Feng shui (sic) is ok, unless you live in the Northern hemisphere. I would say that 99% of people who claim to understand Feng Shui in the northern hemisphere are frauds. Good luck in finding that 1%. Much better to look for a person who comes from the land you live in.

Look at it this way. Feng Shui created paper, gun powder and ink. Feng Shui is like Alchemy in Europe. Some of it is Science some is tradition, superstition and beliefs.

Before you say Feng Shui is only about placement, luck and fortunetelling research first.

bullshit, feng shui did not create anything, its a mindset, which cannot create anything. it has nothing to do with alchemy or any other science. It is a belief system, not a science.

History speaks for itself. Paper, gun powder and ink were created in China where Feng Shui was considered the "art" or science in those times.

Just because it was made in the same country doesn't mean it was a by-product of a belief.

Does any of you actually know anything about Feng Shui at all ?_?. Wind water, or the study of the harmony of the elements was used in China for metal work, Lunar calendar and daily applications.

Some of it may sound mystical, but in truth most of it has logical basis. The mystical stuff is just blown out of proportion because of exaggeration and wishful thinking. Though admittedly some of it might be tacked on to make a profit as well.

    LOL XD

Paper is invented during han dynasty (206 BC) to replace bamboo scroll.

IIRC han dynasty also bloom mathematics and astronomy (and astronomy branch out as feng shui)

    True.

That doesn't help the debate at hand.

The belief may have "assisted" in making those items (ie to belief to bother to do it or whatever, etc) but unless someone points me in the right direction I don't think it actually MADE those items.

    At least not directly.

In that logic then Alchemy is not science as well is it not.
