Hey guys I was wondering, is it possible to extract the music files from a nds file? Some games I found songs that I really like and it would be cool if I could extract them from the nds file itself so I could put it on my portable device.

i think its better to just good the songs or the name of the game and download them individually

    What?
Anyways, not all games have official soundtracks to download. Take for Example Dementium II, you won't be finding the songs for that game online at all.
Actually, I too would like to know how to rip songs from DS games, there were a few songs in Dementium II I liked, and would like to maybe put on YouTube for all to enjoy, or something.

Well I think I found VGMTrans but it doesn't work. I start the program and when I go to add a nds file it just does absolutely nothing as if I didnt even click add game. So forget that. I found something called dslazy that unpacked the rom and gave me a SoundData.rom from the game but I don't know where to go from there. How would I get the music from the SoundData.rom?

Wow, you actually found it? When I searched it I found forum threads where people posted it, but the links didn't work anymore.

I know I looked through a bunch of sites and finally found one that worked, it said the program was from 2005 though so VGMTrans is an old program and apparently doesn't work. Do you know what to do with the SoundData.rom?

Use DSBuff to open the SoundData.rom, you get a SoundData.sdat file within, then follow this guide to "extract" the .sdat file.

The download is safe, I've tested it.

You have to drag and drop the rom onto the VGMTrans window...

I have a version from 2007, by the way.

Uh DSbuff will only let me open .nds files and not .rom so that doesn't help, thanks anyway.

Also the guide, 100% of it makes absolutely no sense to me so that doesn't help either.

Well if your 2007 version works do you mind giving us a link?

Something that will work really well!!! You can use it on anything that plays audio. I use it all the time. The only problem is that it records ANY audio made, so while playing that ds game, don't click on anything or hit any buttons, just sit and let it record. You can choose between .wav, .mp3, and .aiff, but the record noise at the end is there, just put it on Movie Maker and trim the end, make it fade out, and voila, have your music. It is not as complicated as it sounds. Movie Maker will make it a .wma file. I'll explain at the end how to convert.

    http://www.nch.com.au/recordpad/index.html
Hit the "get it now" button on the right side to download once there.

Download RecordPad, it is only 444kb, and is easy to install. Once it expires, just uninstall it, then install it again.

Make sure to have this set up to work: once you have the application running, click the "input" drop down, and select channel as "stereo mix". For output, select the desired format (you'll have to change it anyway on MovieMaker, so it doesnt matter really), and choose a directory. Then, just hit the big red button.

To convert the audio file to another, use this
    http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html
Switch Audio Converter is only 363kb, and just install like Recordpad. Just add the file, or folder, choose output format, and hit start. It is easy.

Hope this doesnt sound too complicated, and I hope it works!
