My friend recently tried to convert a 500GB External SATA HDD in an internal one, after he did this he put it into his PC, and booted it up, it loaded up then he got white screen with strange symbols on the screen, then large multi-coloured pixels apeared on the screen, this happens everytime he boots his PC, can anyone help?

    I don't think so.

    Edit:

He doesn't have the hard drive in at the moment, could this be a graphic card related problem?

it could be anything, but graphics card is quite likely.

Ok, he removed his external graphics card, but could not remove the internal one, he says it has gotten even worse, as in there is no more greeting screen just the wierd symbols and smaller pixels.

hmm, tell him to remove all the ram except for the module in the slot nearest the CPU, and remove any other cards he has in it. Does that improve things?

He did this, he said it's just making a very strange noise, he also asked how would the PC boot up with no ram?

I said remove all ram except one module, i.e if there are 4 modules remove 3 of them. Also, describe any beeps there are, they are important.

Ok, and the noises are like a high pitched duh noise.

    Edit:

My friend says he loves you, and wants to buy you a box of chocolates! It works now!

its bad ram then. He needs to try each module one at a time until he finds the bad one, then it needs replacing.
