Sasha Grey, Porn Star, Reads To Elementary School, Parents Outraged

In a victory for education, Grey has released a statement asserting her dedication to continuing her academic endeavors.

"I committed to this program with the understanding that people would have their own opinions about what I have done, who I am and what I represent," she says (via TMZ). "I am an actor. I am an artist. I am a daughter. I am a sister. I am a partner. I have a past that some people may not agree with, but it does not define who I am... I believe in the future of our children, and I will remain an active supporter and participant in education-focused initiatives."
_____

PREVIOUSLY: How would you feel if an adult film star read to your seven year old child? Believe it or not, some parents in California are pretty angry that it happened in their kids' classroom.

Porn legend Sasha Grey was a guest reader at Emerson Elementary School in Compton, California earlier this month, joining first and third grade students in their Read Across America day. Grey certainly enjoyed the experience, tweeting, "Spent the am with Read Across America Compton, reading to the sweetest 1st & 3rd grade students @ Emerson Elementary!"

The problem, TMZ reports, is that parents aren't happy -- and that school officials, instead of addressing the issue, are claiming it never happened. Of course, it'd be silly for Grey to tweet about it if it hadn't happened, and more importantly, TMZ has a photo of the event (as they always seem to do).

To be fair to Grey, she is a recently retired porn star, having recently called it quits. She is now a published author, actress in more mainstream flicks (with a part in the Thomas Jane, Rob Lowe and Jeremy Piven film, "I Melt With You"), Peta activist and fan of Occupy Wall Street.
Sasha Grey: I Will NOT Quit Reading to Schoolchildren

Porn legend Sasha Grey says she will NOT back out of a national elementary school reading program -- despite pressure from parents -- claiming she will "not live in fear" of her XXX past.

Grey -- who once won a Best Oral Sex award for her role in "Throat: A Cautionary Tale" -- participated in the "Read Across America" program at Emerson Elementary School in Compton, CA last week.

Afterward, the school received complaints for letting Grey around the kids. For the record, Grey has been out of the adult business for 2 years.

Now, Sasha has released a statement ... saying, "I committed to this program with the understanding that people would have their own opinions about what I have done, who I am and what I represent."

She adds, "I am an actor. I am an artist. I am a daughter. I am a sister. I am a partner. I have a past that some people may not agree with, but it does not define who I am."

"I believe in the future of our children, and I will remain an active supporter and participant in education-focused initiatives."

SASHA'S STATEMENT:

"I am proud to have participated in the "Read Across America" program at Emerson Elementary School in Compton, CA. I read “Dog Breath” by Dav Pilkey to the sweetest 1st and 3rd grade children.

"Read Across America" is a program that was designed to promote literacy and instill a lifelong love of reading in elementary school students. Promoting education is an effort that is close to my heart. Illiteracy contributes to poverty; encouraging children to pick up a book is fundamental.

I believe education is a universal right. I committed to this program with the understanding that people would have their own opinions about what I have done, who I am and what I represent.

I am an actor. I am an artist. I am a daughter. I am a sister. I am a partner. I have a past that some people may not agree with, but it does not define who I am.

I will not live in fear of it. To challenge non-profit education programs is an exercise in futility, counter-productive and anti-educational.

I cannot thank my fans and 'Read Across America' enough for supporting my decision. Your support and kind words continue to inspire me. I believe in the future of our children, and I will remain an active supporter and participant in education-focused initiatives."
What a horrible knee-jerk reaction this is!

First of all, while Sasha Grey's past may not make her an ideal role model to children, the parents' outrage should not be elevated to the point where children can hear them. There are many things children should not hear or be exposed to, and this issue is one of them.

Are you listening, parents? Didn't your parents ever teach you not to 'make a mountain out of a molehill'? What about "Don't make a mountain out of the WRONG molehill"? Because this is the wrong molehill that you don't want to make a mountain out of, as it will create more problems for you.

"Mom, Dad, what's a porn star?"

Oops! Looks like some irresponsible parent owes a dollar to the swear jar! This is the next issue no parent should have to deal with while their children are still growing up. In fact, this issue could be avoided entirely if all the parents would just calm down and rationalize the situation instead of reacting too quickly with public complaints and outrage against the school, as well as Sasha Grey.

For parents to focus their outrage on Sasha Grey would simply make the matter worse. The articles in the New York Daily News, Huffington Post, and The LA Weekly which focus on this matter has brought more public attention than it needs, and it will be only a matter of time before the first curious kid learns what a porn star is as long as parents keep picking on this matter like a festering wound.

Besides, shouldn't people who want to turn their lives around, like Sasha Grey, be given a second chance? It's not like she's a convicted criminal or a sex offender in that matter. Sasha Grey is just an individual who had a professional setback. Sure, Sasha Grey made a poor decision in the past to become a porn star (but hey, I'm not complaining about that at all), but she has clearly made efforts to turn her life, as well as her professional career (she has since switched to mainstream acting by the way), around. Just because an individual makes a poor decision in their life doesn't mean that the public should condemn them for that decision as long as they live, unless it was a serious criminal activity.

Out of all the problems going on in United States, such as low education standards and illiteracy, parents unfortunately had to focus their attention towards the wrong problem. I say those parents need to do their children a favor, and just shut the hell up.

Note to self: Add "Throat: A Cautionary Tale" to porn watch list.

I'd normally steer clear of Sasha Grey porn.

Oh wait, hang on. I'll reply properly.

1. The kids don't give a fuck that she's a porn star, they probably don't know what a porn star is and probably can't even spell "porn".
2. She's actually a legit fucking actress, for real.
3. Fuck.
4. There is nothing wrong with reading books, hell, I'm urging people to do it all the fucking time.
5. IN THIS CORNER, WEIGHING 35 POUNDS, PORN STAR SASHA GREEEEY! HEY DID YOU KNOW SHE ONCE LICKED AN ASSHOLE THAT HAD SHIT ON IT?
6. There are better things to complain about.
7. Parents these days are fucking dumb.

She quit didn't she? It's not like she's reading a porn mag to kids. I don't know what's the fuss about.

What the hell, someone who has had sex is teaching children? This is wrong on so many levels, the only people who should teach kids are virgins

the kids won't have the first idea who she is, and so long as she doesn't mention her past job (I see no reason why she would) then there should not be a problem. It's the self-righteous people like those parents that are creating an issue where there is no cause for one (as often happens).

All she wants is a fresh start in life, and she found it by teaching kids how to read with curiosity...eventually they'll figure out her dirty past, when they look back at the day they were reading books with her.

Also why so many guys in this thread?

Wow, I didn't know we could search for stuff like that in this site, who'd have thunk it possible.
You know what, that's exactly what I did...
If all of the mothers were dead serious about this then they would try and boycott all of pornography, lock it up in a box, eradicate it in a furnace, and discipline their husbands for being a dirty little boy.

But evidently some women like Sasha Grey profit off of reinforcing man's imagination, the mothers who actually care have a difficult time with this stuff. Do not get me wrong though I just recently quit looking at porn for personal reasons.
