It's alright if you can handle the annoying english dub (there's Japanese dubs aswell so do not fret). The combat system is fun and the story is alright.

Look around for videos of the game and judge it for yourself, it's not everyone's cup of tea but I enjoyed the battle system, I recommend you look into that.

I was in gamestop the other day and asked the guy behind the counter (A good friend of mine from school) to reccomend a good RPG. He didn't miss a beat, pointed me right to it. I picked that one up and started playing it with my little brother (It has offline co-op, which is a plus for me and my internet-less self). We got through a few story arcs and he loves it. I'm a bit more skeptical, and you wanted a review, so i'll lay it out for you: (I'll avoid spoilers)

Essentially, it's your standard RPG with a lot of good twists thrown in. The map you run around on is well detailed and linear, so you won't have to worry about getting lost. The enemies you fight can be seen on the world map, so if you don't want to fight, step around them. Item usage is unique, and adds a tactical point to the game. All items that can be used in battle have a point value (For example, an item that revives people would have a point value of 3 or so, a peach cookie (standard middle of the road healing item) would have a point value of 1. You have a certain amount of points allotted to your team (it increases as you progress, but the original 15 is more than fair) and you have to fit your usable items into that.

The battle system is uinque and quite easy to master. You have a timer when your turn starts, and you have to fit everything you want to do in that timer. Each character has (at the beginning, more unlocked as you level up) 2 special attacks, one attuned to light, and one attuned to darkness. If your character is standing in the light, they use the light special attack when you hit triangle, if they stand in shadow, they use the dark version. Since most heavy damage or group damage attacks are dark based and most healing or single hit attacks are light based, you have to control your position and attacks as needed. It sounds insanely complicated, but it's actually very easy, my 12 yr old brother picked up on it in about fifteen minutes, after dying about 3 times in the early battles. Targeting is done automatically for most ranged abilities (based on the direction you're looking) and is done based on proximity to enemies or allies for healing or group attacks. When attacked, you can guard by pressing the circle button with the right timing (which my brother became quite good at, blocking all but the most ridiculously quick attacks, he's actually a bit better at it than me)

the story is a touch drab, very "nothing new" about it, but you can easily skip cutscenes and move on with the story if you so desire. I picked the game up for just under $30 and I don't regret it. My brother made me promise not to play unless he can play with me (He's only allowed to play on weekends, no school nights) so i haven't got far in the game, but it's fun, easy to learn, and well worth the price. It's ultimately up to you, but since you asked, I'd say it's definatlely worth a look.

I seem to be the only person who didn't mind the English Dub at all. I liked the voices, its a good game with a good battle system

The annoying part of the dubbing is that they repeat the attack name every single damn time. But this is true for English and Japanese... and other games like the Tales of series.
