ESRB (American Videogame rating board) unfair?

I recalled a past experience I had with ESRB that made me hate their living guts.

I disrespect the "M" rating alot, and hell, most of their games don't deserve it. Most of the rainbow 6 games didn't poison my brain, and the Perfect Dark was right up my alley. I really liked these games.

That is, until I played the first game that scared the crap out of me and I felt like I was going to crap myself on several occasions. This great but scary game was Half-life 2. Those headcrab zombies, unlike the first half-life, are so scary, and they haunted my dreams for say, months. And, there, I sat there, sitting in a corner, thinking about how esrb made these games look bad, but content can only be given by the player.

I'm pretty much whining, but yeah.

...You got scared by HL 2......

  3. the only game that ever scared me was doom 3....but that is fair considering it is doom after all...

  4. yeah, its most fun to play horror fps games in the dark with your sound cranked :D

Any of you guy's know Amsterdoom,?
I was, like, 8 when i played it, it scared me a lot.
Mostly i didn't go to the bathroom because there was a scene in it where a alien was on the bathroom.

And it was rated 8+ i think (it's a while back) while i think it should have been 12+
PS: (when you see the game you'll laugh when you look at the graphics xD)

  6. never heard of it

Aliens versus Predator series had it's moments too. I remember playing as a Marine and freaking out when aliens started crawling out of every shaft. :D

When I was 10ish I played Silent Hill on PSX when it first came out. Scared my shitless lol.

Though these days nothing bothers me much, too many horror and slasher flicks I think :p
Though I do love the baby cry noise they put into Dementium, kinda freaky :p

But no I dont believe they are too unfair, actually I think that gaming shops should start enforcing the rating more, I saw a 15 year old kid prebook GTA the other day, I mean come on...

ESRB has the right intentions... But people just don't care.
Silent Hill also scared the hell out of me. As did Resident Evil 1.

Bioshock anyone? I suppose the game was pretty scary...even though i didn't have time to take in the creepiness due to the fact that i was trying to beat the game as fast and through as i could.

  11. o yeah, alien vs predator 2 on pc scared the piss outta me...literally (true story)
marine campaign is the best, as you'll get scared the most :D

  13. yeah, resident evil 4 was kinda scary I guess....I would've been frightened more if I had played it when I was younger

Man, but still playing in a dark room with Resident evil...imagine teh room as surround sound...with people invited tehre just to poke you, pop out outta nowhere, and scare you...ultimate holloween, also use a wireless gun... and the people were dresse in zombie robes...and people weren't aware of them being inside, be sure to padlock the door ;D
