SO i fnished installing my four browsers yersteday after being 3 days installing the rest of the thing i use, i installed the browsers directly onto C:/ not on C:/program files/Fire fox (an example) the i ran disk clean up since i had 60 GB on previois windows installs, and it worked at the second time erasing the 40 GB folder, i turn off the laptop, i turn it on this morning and i get said message, after bveing unable to boot my loader of vista (my vista CD cant repair equips, the guys who sell it with the laptop removed the language config option so it launches you to the partition system) i booted it via win7 and to my surprise it says i have 119 GB free, while it should have been 50-70 GB of memory!, so WTF happened, oh i also installed avast, as nod was being bitchy, i hate norton, panda left a mental scar on my head (when i had a pentium 3 Tower-PC it did something odd and started a sequence that twice it wiped all my files) and AVG *bleep*ed my last OS install because it crashed always windows gadgets, so all i had left was avast.

sounds to me that you deleted something that shouldnt have been deleted. You can try an over-the-top reinstall (basically reinstall using the same OS and all the same settings as the broken OS)

I did that, but the main issue is that the disk cleaner completley wiped the window.old folders, and if my hypotesis is right it also wiped key some files in the process, then i turned it off, before that it was working fine, i had to a scratch reinstall since well the OS was so screwed i took the chance to get rid of my 30 GB partition, plus i already had suffered two BSOD's after installing avast and office (both aluding to a plug in) i got lucky enough to see that i dont need to install vista (though i will need an EHDD soon to make frequent backups) and i clicked on new windows 7 ultmate install (yes i know what you said last time, still i'd rather run an OS i have a years working now) finally i had a few weird folders on my C drive that were worrying me and avast nor nod ID'ed them as viruses (i installed nod first, it went berserk on me, the firewall was trying to block me from launching firefox, or any browser then i moved to avast) malwarebytes dint picked them as malware either, they were named something like:

!$&?!WINDOWS#!-%$ or were plain symbols, which again made me think the OS would crash, not that it would crash overnight, i lost several manga i had since 2003 -_-

that usually indicates filesystem corruption, you should probably run a disk checker (and a smart tool if you can).

tough as much i had to install vista twice (this was before the massive problem i point on the OP) since somehow it got corrupted, this time i am not worried, windows7 has two options, one of the literally erases everything on the hard disk then proceeds to make the install, so i had to chose the latter option, after erasing the whole partition since i couldnt not even install or format it at all, it's been a couple of days and it's running ok i just ended installing winrar, pokemon online, and a few cracks i tend to use (only due that there are 0 Microsoft store in my country and buying an original CD of office= 1 month of salary 1.500 bucks) and it works fine, i also disabled windows update since it has given me trouble on the past (replacing the atheros driver with an "updated" and mroe compatible version then having two conflicting drivers since it does not uninstalls, etc,).

But since you are way more tech savvy that i am what programs do you recomend (if they are shareware please post the names, i will get around the issue eventually)

general rule is dont get drivers from windows update unless you're on windows 7. the drivers windows update provides on earlier versions just dont work.

for hard disk diagnostics you usually want the program from the hard disk manufacturer, as each has their own program specific to their own drives. Typically its provided as an iso image for a bootable cd.

Uggh more issues, mind telling me how is that i see the hardware compoenents, the sticker of my PC has blurred out and i dont see more than SATA under the HDD model, the issue is that the goverment is handing this laptops and come with a special or modded version of windows vista, which are just partition magnager and OS install, i am running win 7 ultimate and some of my vista drivers work fine (nameley chipset, WLAN,etc. ultimate already installed all the other i needed before hand), also i dont even bother with win update now, since i've read so many times window supdates tend to do more harm than good, yeah not gonna happen.

So i need to seek the web page of sata and see if they have the checker there or should i google, in this case it's probably a good idea that i head either to taringa or pirate bay if it's a thing i need to buy, ugg why the fuck the goverment could not do their research properly and avoid this whole mess.

Also this is what the goverments gives you with the laptop:

The lapto with windows vista and linux canaima.
Driver CD's for Vista and canaima.

    nothing else aside that ¬_¬

look in device manager, tell me what it says under the 'disk drives' category.

failing that, dr. hardware 2009 probably has answers.

Duncan,I dont like cutting in on Loonys action-but you could get another HD and put the other one in an external case and piss around with that later.Download an autoactivating W7 disc,or use "remove wat"Then get it up and running and install all your stuff on the new HD and clone it all back to an external HD.

I havent read all your info since Im half pissed ready to watch the darts-but there is info on repairing bootloader via command prompt. And when you are uninstalling AV's,use their recommended uninstallers LOL.

I fixed this quite a few weeks ago, i posted this since i was curious to know what made the whole OS to be erased along with all the files, and i mean all the files, the disk selection screen showed 110 of 110 GB's i had 54 GB avaible the previous night, as i said i woke up on the next day and i had to format the HDD to finally get rid of the partition, then i could move and install win 7
