I seem to recall that it was possible to put an emulator on the PSP, either an SNES, PSX, or both. Can someone please tell me if this is true or if I was just high out of my mind, or a combination of these two? Also, if you can place an emulator on the PSP, is there a certain one that I have to use, or do I have to do some messing around with the PSP's settings or somesuch nonsense to get it to work properly?

    Many thanks =3

(Sorry if this doesn't go here - you'd think I'd know where everything goes by now...)

PSP can natively play PSX games, and I believe it is possible to run emulators on it.

I currently have NES, SNES and ScummVM on my PSP slim.
If you look in tutorials there is a guide for playing PSX games on your PSP.

Both require Custom Firmware. You can find more information about that on pspmod

There's quite a few emulators for PSP. See my PSP Emulators topic somewhere in Trading Station.

I've gathered that custom eboot files, like the ones that run the emulators, don't work on firmware versions above 1.5 - I have version 3.93, so I believe that I'm royally boned.

Would someone be so kind as to walk me through exactly what to do to get everything working? I don't want to mess around too much with this, as I have a feeling that I'll end up screwing something up if I just go about updating to this or that...

Rhith, you said that you need custom firmware to run emulators: would...

...the above be what I could use? If so, is it just a matter of downloading it and updating to that custom firmware? I'm really not that technical, so I want a definate answer before I go and turn my PSP brick into a literal brick XD

To downgrade your PSP to custom firmware you need to get a pandoras battery (you can probly pick one up off ebay for about $40). I think theres a tut on downgrading in the tuts section, if not then ill write one up.

Wait, so now I have to buy something to install a custom firmware, even though it's a higher version than what I have? If that's the case, then there's no point - I'll just do it on my computer, rather than pay to do something free XD

As for running PSX games on the PSP, it's my understanding that the file must be in the eboot format, along with a keys.bin file (or something to that nature), but when I attempt to run that file, I get the message: "The copyright protection information is invalid."

This is having converted a game from this site into an eboot file - is this just the firmware again screwing me over, or have I done something wrong in converting the .iso/.img file?

And that's for the help so far =3

unfortunately to run PSX games converted to EBOOT you also need custom firmware, the only way around this is to buy the PSX games from the PSstore, but that kind of defeats the purpose.

You can make a pandora yourself depending on your battery, if you have a PSP slim battery then you can HardMod it to pandora and back (ive done it and its actually really easy , though it requires opening your battery). If you have a PSP phat battery then you can convert it using software, though you will need to have a PSP with custom firmware to do this (ask around your mates). If you need more details then im more than happy to help.

I have a Pandora Battery sitting around on my desk so if you're in the US and you are willing to pay for shipping for me to send it to you and shipping back. (I think $1.91 for 1st class each way.) Then, I can send it to you and let you do it then have you send it back.

And though it is a higher version of firmware then what is currently on yours they changed the coding that allowed you to install your own firmware after a certain point, I missed those days of just putting a custom firmware eboot on your memory card and upgrading. :'(

If you're interested in the $4 it will take to mod your PSP, (Instead of $9.66 http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12472) and without waiting a month for processing and shipping from Hong Kong, just send me a PM.
