Earthquake in Chile

There has been another earthquake today, this one in chile at a magnitude of 8.8, and now tsunamis are racing across the Pacific ocean, here's the article from New York Times

Yeah, I heard about this just now as I was having my breakfast & was listening to the radio.

Man, magnitude 8.8! I can't even fathom how strong such an earthquake would be. Unless that HBO Specials movie about such a strong earthquake was accurate.

As tsunami warnings have been issued to us as well.

I hope any & all Chilean RomUlation members are OK.

 

I heard a tsunami that was supposed to hit Hawai'i didn't hit... Or at least, not yet.

 

I really hope there is no pattern here. Haiti, then Chile, whats next? a pacific island? Will it be Hawaii? Australia? Guam? Phillipines? Japan?

 

I wonder why there's been so many quakes recently. My sympathies go to the people of Chile.

 

Haiti, Chile, Guam and Japan are near the boundaries of tectonic plates and thus are vulnerable to earthquakes.

Hawaii, Australia and the Philippines are not, and thus are relatively safe.

 

Good to hear that, but hope that the tsunamis wont get here also.

We got tsunami warnings here in New Zealand as well. My city's known for earthquakes, so yeah. Fun stuff.

Well two days ago (based on my location) Taiwan was struck with a magnitude 6 earthquake.
