The first was on Famicom, and was translated to be released in English but it was scrapped at the last minute before its release but there are fan translated versions of it floating about. The 2nd was on SNES/Super Famicom and the 3rd was on Gameboy Advance, but it wasn't released in English either. So the one we actually got in English was the 2nd on Super Nintendo.
Yup. ^This is almost correct. Among 3 Mothers (the japanese version), only 1 of them is released in English - Mother 2, with the English title Earthbound... For the story of Mother (the English version is Earthbound Zero), read here: http://www.lostlevels.org/200407/200407-earthbound.shtml It's a pretty interesting story, long story short, Nintendo actually has the prototype of Earthbound Zero and a guy bought it and dumped it so all of us can play it now. Mother 3 actually has a pretty interesting story too. The fans demanded NOA to release this game, but was ignored even until now. Tired of waiting, a group of fans decided to translate the game themselves. The translation turned out to be awesome and is available here: http://mother3.fobby.net/ All of them are great! Earthbound Zero can be a little hard for casual players, but there's an easy patch (2x EXP and money drops) somewhere out there.
