Ok so I just got my old comp back along with all my good stuff (external Dvd writer) anyway, I go into pirate mode and get some .avi vids of "free" video that is totally "legal".

So then, I go to nero and find out it doesn't see my external dvd writer. I unplug and replug it in, still doesn't work. Any help?

Any different programs to burn .avi to a dvd?

I don't know if it's a software problem but windows sees it in my comp as cd drive f:, should it say dvd writer?

Thanks in advance. Any info needed just ask.

Have you let Windows recognize it?

    Like monitors.

I'm not sure, but when I plugged it in at first it said that it found a new drive.

Did it said that it was installing the software?

I don't think it has a software to install, I think it's a plug and play type thing.

When I go into device manager it shows up in the dvd/cd drives section.

Then it has "installed" properly. Consult the manual of the drive, maybe that'll help.

    are you using xp?
I had a similar problem, google told me it was because xp was made before dvd burning was popular so sometimes isn't compatible.

or after the install process, you have to restart it. also, it could have a driver issue which you can look for at the website of your dvd writer. Sometimes, it says plug and play but it still need drivers.

It's not xp, I had it working before on xp.

I checked for driver updates and it said there were none :/

Edit: ok so I'm using ImgBurn right now and it see's it and everything's cool.

    it says -
    VOM-12E48X 100A (USB)
    Current Profile: DVD-R

    Disc Information:

So it knows what's going on, but when I try to burn I get this-

    I/O Error!

    Is the program IMGBurn?

    I/O does look like on/off...

    It worked before though :/

I uninstalled nero and was going to reinstall it, but I think I lent it to my sister. I can see in a few days if it does.

And it's on if that's what your implying :)

Edit: Ok so I reinstalled Nero and tried and tried burning a song onto a cd. It got to 44% and just stopped.

I tried burning a cd in Zune and it said something about checking connectivity. I changed the chord a few times but that didn't help. Any other ideas?
