    This is the second one I've heard of in a while.

    First was the Polish President and now this one... :p

    That really sucks. I don't fly on planes for a reason...

    It's actually the safest form of transport in existance (apart from zepplins but they arent used anymore).

    I did see someone in the indian civil aviation authority (whatever its called) quoted as saying that mangalore airport shouldnt be used for larger aircraft because its unsuitable (most likely because of the lack of overshoot), but it seems like the comment got withdrawn. It seems like pilot error was at least partly to blame as he touched down too far down the runway, he should have aborted the landing, executed a go-around and tried again from further back.

    Ok. I didn't know that actually. :)

    It always seems that when there is a safety hazard, it is ignored until something drastic happens or the media is brought into it...
