My boys have a DSi each. They are about 15mths old (the consoles that is!!) Both now last no time at all (an hour or so) before the battery light comes on, then they die soon after. When it comes to recharging them, again, it takes no time to 'fully' charge. I've tried 3rd party replacement batteries but they are just the same. I've contacted Nintendo who have agreed to look at them but at a cost. I'm inclined to do this but one thing concerns me... Both consoles use Acekards for the boys games. I obviously wont send them with the consoles, but when they come to get tested and repaired, will any update Nintendo installs, stop my Acekards from working? Cheers
Thanks but it's always turned off so that the boys dont use it and accidentally update etc. It's been turned off since I bought them.
Dave,it could be the battery, the charger,or some inner component Im afraid.Id test each fully charged battery with a multimeter to see what charge is being stored. Someone will need to advise about the returning to Nintendo,if it needs wiped or something...
Thanks for the replies guys. The backlight hasn't been altered since we got them - it's on 3 I think. I've tried alternative batteries from 2 different suppliers and both discharge quite rapidly as mentioned. I think I'm going to have to send them for a check and repair? They sell pukka Nintendo batteries at £12 each. I though of buying 2 of these but I'm afraid that if the consoles have developed a fault, they will just knack up the new batteries. Bit of a coincidence that both machines/batteries discharge which makes me think on the other hand that it could just be the usage and age of the batteries??
This may be down to charger them when they don't fully need it and then not letting charge fully. I don't know anything batteries but it might be something to do with the battery cycles or its memory to run at full capacity. Take my phone, its only around 6month old and I constantly plugging it in for 10-30 minutes then unplugging it and the full charge only get around 1day while my friend same phone around the same time gets 3-4 days.
I get what you are saying JBH but I thought the batteries of these days no longer had the problem of memory/partial/full charge etc. It could certainly be that, as we always try to make sure the batteries are at full charge before we go out with the boys.
yes, I agree. Think I'll have to bite the bullet and send them in. They have guaranteed that the absolute max I could be charged is £56 per console so that's still half the price of a new one!
With a properly updated acekard, the latest firmware of the DSi doesn't stop the Acekard from working. So there shouldn't be any danger of stopping them from working. As well if they are draining batteries that fast then there may be an issue with the console. I've had a DSi since release week, and my unit still works perfectly fine, though it is best to allow the DS to drain to a dead/near dead battery at least once in a week. Hope things work out.
