I picked up a DS lite off a friend (for free w00t) that only had a broken top screen. It worked fine other than the screen. I took it apart to add a mini USB port, since i didn't have a charger but i had the port. i ended up not installing the port because i didn't have anything to de -solder the old power. But now that i put it back together, it wont stay on for longer than a second and the screen flashes real quick and then it turns off. Is this because of the broken screen?

Maybe because you messed with it?...

    So, you soldered it?

If it's possible, could you add pictures?

When it comes on, is the light green, or is it red? It just sort of sounds like the battery needs a charge.

I never soldered it, and the light turns on green the the top screen flashes and then the light turns red and it shuts off

You're battery is dead. You need to charge it.

i did charge it and it still does the same thing, and before i took it apart it was working fine(aside from the cracked screen) because i played it a little

How long did you charge it? My DS on average needs about two and a half hours to get from near empty to full. Also, there's a possibility that the battery isn't connecting right, but then I wouldn't think that it would turn on at all.

Of course, you could just be using a very crappy battery. There is one way to know if it works at all though. Put it on the charger, make sure the charging light comes on, and try to play it. If it still won't work, you broke something.

When you plug it in, does the orange charging light come on?

judging by his description, it has to do with how the battery is working/connected. he said it turns on with green light, but turns red and shuts of....so like Nate said, try it while keeping it plugged in....

There is a possibility that he screwed up his own DS ;D

try the battery, by the sound of this, its probably not installed correctly, check for the battery conections if they are messed up or something, and make sure to screw the battery firmly, and correctly

Bah, I will have to join the majority on this one sounds like you knocked something loose to the battery or its gone bad. try another battery (if possible) and see if you get the same results.

I have research the problem and he may have actually short circuited the wire to the battery while he opened the DS, second, it may have something to do with the broken top screen.

He already said it worked fine except for the top screen before he opened it up and tinkered with it.

Just a small note: NEVER OPEN UP A CONSOLE UNLESS YOU FULLY KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING. Otherwise you are likely to create more problems while trying to fix just one.

i knew that ;D I mean that when he opened the DS, he may actually did something wrong and causees the battery and top screen to go bonkers ;D

Well, no, the top screen was more than likely cracked before he got into it, or broken in some way or another. He got it free from his friend as the top screen was already broken. That wouldn't affect the battery in anyway, as the two sections are almost completely unrelated to one another.

It is related, i once open my DS lite and accidentally cut the wrong wire and both the battery and screen won't turn on ;D
