Which DS games would you recommend for a 5 year old. If they have an educational slant that would be even better. I am interested in "My Virtual Tutor - Reading" by have not seen it in the ROMs section yet.

    Thank you,

Hand them a pokemon game and watch them sit quietly for hours on end.

    LOL!

    ...but at 5-can they read?

My brother couldn't even play smash brothers until 9.

Though I differ-at 7 me and my dad beat contra-and although help was needed for the traps, i did most of the shooting XD

Try a super mario game-super mario 64 ds would work-though I reckon at 5 it's a bit young to be playing-even if educational.

They should be able to read at five.

Reading is something you should teach your kids prior to school. (Regardless of what schools these days tell you). My mother bought me my first novel when I was five years old. J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit. I read that.

And Pokemon is not exactly a huge literary hurdle...

I already bought him Pokemon Platinum and he loves it. :) And yes he is learning how to read.. hence why i want to get him the reading tutor for the DS :) http://www.myvirtualtutorgame.com/
But I want to try before buying :) Is there a place where you can request specific ROMs?

    Thank you,
    A

Definitely Pokemon. I completed Pokemon Yellow when I was a little kid.
Can't think of any others at the moment.

Why don't you dowload the ROMs in here? You can try them first before buying it.
And if you know some good games for your kid, you can search for them here, just use the search function.

Sorry-I was thinking of the general level of kids around my area and myself-could not read at 5 (but I had an unusual reason...will not disclose here) and my brother couldn't ethier (he's just lazy-doesnt read manuals nor follow in game advice-and he complains to me about not beating some games :( )

For once I agree-this ain't bad-it's easy to play and no reading needed.

Wether or not it's good for a child is another matter (but I doubt they'll get hooked, unless they play that all day like me and my brother did...)

i honestly think Scribblenauts is a great game to learn how to read and some critical thinking... you should play with him at first because its a little challenging but after a while he should get the hang of it... its pretty simple...
